Rayuela Festival of Latin American Music

submitted by moyar@augsburg.edu

The Rayuela Festival takes a playful approach to Latin American music and culture. The Festival aims to embrace a wide variety of chamber music repertoire, showcase talented musicians, and provide a platform for Latin American composers.

This year, the festival will consist of two performances in Sateren Auditorium at Augsburg University.

In the first concert of the Rayela Festival 2017, pianist Matthew McCright performs Reinaldo Moya’s cycle for solo piano, The Way North.

The Way North depicts the journey of a Central American migrant through Mexico and their eventual arrival in the United States. The work consists of a series of short vignettes that capture the emotional, physical and psychological tolls that these people make as they make their way north in search of a better life for themselves and their families. A piece full of force, anguish, but also hope and beauty, The Way North is a pianistic tour de force.

In the second concert of the Rayuela Festival, musicians from the Twin Cities come together to perform exciting works by Latin American composers.
