submitted by sitarami@augsburg.edu

A dump truck traveling on Interstate 94 on Monday struck the pedestrian bridge that goes over I-94 near Augsburg. The bridge was damaged and will be closed indefinitely. As alternatives, pedestrians can take 20th and 25th avenues south and bicyclists are urged to take the Riverside Avenue Bridge. The truck also hit the 25th Avenue and Riverside Avenue bridges and the southbound right lane of the 25th Avenue bridge also is closed until Aug. 12. The sidewalk and bike lane on the southbound side are also closed.  The sidewalk on the northbound side is open. The Riverside Avenue bridge remains open.
Full Notice Tuesday from the Minnesota Department of Transportation:
A dumpster hauler struck the 22nd Avenue pedestrian bridge near Augsburg University on Monday. It also hit the 25th Avenue and Riverside Avenue bridges.

Our crews responded immediately and determined the pedestrian bridge needs to close. In addition, the southbound right lane of the 25th Avenue bridge also is closed until Aug. 12. The sidewalk and bike lane on the southbound side are also closed. The sidewalk on the northbound side is open. The Riverside Avenue bridge will remain open.

We have crews out Tuesday afternoon working on the bridges.

We realize this is an inconvenience for those who use these bridges, but we need to make sure they are safe before anyone uses them.

For those who rely on the 22nd Avenue pedestrian bridge to cross I-94, we recommend you use the 25th Avenue or 20th Avenue bridges while we determine how long the bridge will be closed. We recommend Riverside Avenue bridge for bicyclists.
