Local Somali percussionist Harbi will debut his work “Heartbeat of Durbaanka,” a new work funded by a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board Cultural Community Partnership program.

Most recently, Harbi has been the percussionist for five residencies as part of The Cedar Cultural Center’s Midnimo program. Launched in 2014, Midnimo consists of multi-week residencies with Somali musicians from around the world that include public concerts and artist-led workshops, discussions, and activities throughout the state.

And…

Rahmo Rose Band, a group featuring The Cedar’s Somali Artist-in-Residence Rahmo Rose, performs in collaboration with Augsburg College’s Small Jazz Ensemble. The group was created as part of The Cedar’s most recent Midnimo residency, where they opened for London-based Somali qaarami singer Nimco Yasisn in Minneapolis, Mankato, and St. Cloud. They’ll perform for a fourth time on The Cedar’s Community Plaza.
