MnDOT Update: I-94 Construction in Minneapolis Resumes March 31

If you travel on I-94 between I-35W and Huron Blvd in Minneapolis, soon you will need to plan for fewer lanes and ramp closures and give yourself additional time to reach your destination starting March 31.

First, they will need a few trail and ramp closures to safely remove concrete from under the I-94 overpasses.

Starting 5 a.m. Mon, March 31, the West River Pkwy trail will be closed under I-94 through Fri, April 11. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be routed around the closure along the parkway.

Then, ramps will be closed to traffic:

— The ramp from northbound Hwy 55 to South 3rd St/Washington Ave South will be closed from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wed, April 2.
— The ramps from South 8th St. to Hwy 55 and from S 6th St to eastbound I-94 will be closed from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thu, April 3.

Please use alternate routes to bypass these closures.

Additionally, beginning 5 a.m. Mon, April 7 until Fri, May 2, the Hiawatha LRT trail will be closed between 15th Ave S and E Franklin Ave.

— Pedestrians can bypass the closure using Cedar Ave.
— Bicyclists can bypass the closure using 20th Ave. S and S 6th St.

EASTBOUND I-94 CLOSURE BEGINS APRIL 4
Beginning 10 p.m. Fri, April 4, eastbound I-94 will be fully closed between 11th Ave S and Franklin Ave SE to shift traffic. The ramp from northbound I-35W to eastbound I-94 will also be closed to traffic. You can bypass the closures using northbound I-35W, eastbound Hwy 36, southbound I-35E and eastbound I-94.

Westbound I-94 will remain open to traffic for the weekend.

Then at 5 a.m. Mon, April 7, eastbound I-94 will reopen and both directions of I-94 will be reduced to two lanes on the east side of the interstate between I-35W and Huron Blvd through June.

RAMP CLOSURES BEGIN APRIL 7
Starting Mon, April 7, crews will also need to temporarily close ramps along I-94 at Huron Blvd, Riverside Ave. and 7th St near downtown Minneapolis.

Legacy Celebration on April 4

Each year, the Augsburg Asian Student Association, Hmong Women Together, and Pan-Asian Peer Mentoring come together for the “Legacy Celebration.” This event aims to celebrate graduating seniors, recognize student leaders, and provide an opportunity to embrace community. The celebration will take place in Hoversten Chapel on Friday, April 4th, from 7 PM to 8:30 PM. This event is open to all. Please note that the dress code is formal attire.

3-Bedroom Apartment for Rent

This 3-bedroom apartment, with high ceilings, large windows and a gorgeous color scheme, is available May 1. Walking distance to Augsburg, 1 block South of Franklin Avenue. Our South-facing windows get great light in the winter months when the sun is low in the sky. Grape vines now cover some of the windows in the summer and keep things fresh (and delicious).

Amazing location – close to the 2, 7, 8 and 9 bus lines, the Greenway, Augsburg, U of M, and walking distance to everything the Seward neighborhood has to offer.

The size of the bedrooms vary considerably, so this space is good for folks with different space and/or budget requirements. The whole apartment is 1100 square feet, and bedrooms range from 7 x 11 feet (the smallest) to approximately 12 x 13 (the largest). One bathroom.

We’ve had lovely families make very good use of the space, and lovely roommate households, as well. If you are a set of three roommates, you might consider breaking rents out as $550, $650, and $750, depending on what feels fair to everyone in your household.

The house is owner-occupied in the upstairs unit. We are a queer family: one gringa, one mexicana, and two bilingual perritos—our hypoallergenic fur babies. Ever since 2012, our house has been home to folks of many races, ethnicities and genders, and we’re excited to find out who will be next to share our home!

Free laundry in basement, small shed for bikes, imperfectly fenced back yard. Tenants pay most utilities (heat, electric, internet). Owner pays water, sewer and trash. Each of the two apartments in our duplex is responsible for shoveling every other week throughout the winter.

Up to two well-trained pets are negotiable, with strong preference for low-allergy types, and additional pet rent of $25/month/pet. No smoking in the house.

One-year lease, which becomes flexible after a year.

I am conducting a research study about how episode patterns in schizophrenia may affect stigmatization levels among mental health practitioners and the general public in Minnesota, and I would like to include you in my research. Third Way Civics Faculty Workshop Application

Third Way Civics (3WC) Faculty Development Workshop Application

This workshop features an active, high impact pedagogy for all fields, focused on the close reading of texts and data, reasoning to sound arguments, and student perspective taking. The workshop is open and appropriate for faculty from all disciplines, and does not require adding any new content to a course. It is an active pedagogical approach to teaching the content of any course. The 3CW pedagogy has been featured at conferences around the world, and is currently being used by both large and small universities across the United States.

All workshop participants will receive a $1,000 stipend for completing the workshop, and become eligible for additional $1,000 stipends if they implement the 3WC pedagogy in a future courses.

Workshop Dates: May 27 & 28, 2025, one and half day schedule. Schedule details to be communicated later.

– Warmer season tasks will include lawn and landscaping maintenance, such as mowing, weed whipping, watering, planting, trimming, raking, leaf blowing, and debris removal

– Duties performed with and without the use of equipment; training will be provided
– Trash pickup around campus

Legacy Celebration on April 4

Every year the Department of Student Initiatives hosts the Pan Asian Legacy Celebration, with traditions to celebrate graduating seniors, emerging leaders and alumni. This year it’s hosted in the chapel on April 4 from 7 to 8:30 pm.

Our theme, Threads of Legacy, represents the deep connections that bind us through our shared histories and traditions. The experience promises to be intellectual, communal, theological, dialogical, challenging, and practical.

Elisa V – CGEE Central America – Forced Exile

Elisa V, CGEE’s Regional Co-director, needs our community’s support. Here is a note from her:

Hello, my name is Elisa.

Like many of my fellow citizens, I am now facing forced exile due to a dictatorship that denies its own citizens their rights.

I come from a working class background, and through hard work and perseverance, I was able to build a home of my own, an achievement that is often out of reach for people like me.

I am an educator, and my work has been about amplifying voices against injustice, building bridges between cultures, and guiding students in their learning. Creating inclusive spaces where diversity is valued and respected has been one of my greatest accomplishments. In my own small way, I have tried to contribute to a more just and compassionate world.

I am also a mother, a wife, and a rescuer of stray dogs. Now, I face the heartbreaking reality of leaving behind everything I worked so hard to build in my home country.

Many friends have reached out, asking how they can support me as I relocate my family—including my eight rescue dogs—to safety. In response, I have created this GoFundMe to help us start over in a new country, Costa Rica.

From the depths of my heart, I am grateful for every word of encouragement, every act of kindness, and every bit of support. Thank you for standing with me in this difficult time.

Important Campus Access Reminders

Preventing behaviors like “piggybacking” or “tailgating” (letting individuals without a fob follow others through fob-access doors) is an important way we maintain a safe environment for all Auggies. While it may feel uncomfortable, it’s important not to hold secure doors open for people you don’t know.

CAMPUS ACCESS REMINDERS:

– Use your own fob, every time.

– If someone you don’t know approaches a locked door at the same time as you, step back and allow them to fob in ahead of you. If they don’t have a fob, they should contact the Department of Public Safety or call the person they are trying to meet.

– If you use your fob to let someone you don’t know into a secure area, it is your responsibility to escort them to their destination and stay with them until they connect with the individual(s) they are on campus to meet.

– If someone you don’t know follows you into a residence hall, contact the Department of Public Safety at (612) 330-1717 immediately.

Farewell for Marah Jacobson: Thursday April 3

Please join us on Thursday, April 3rd from 10:00-11:30am in Oren Gateway 100 as we bid farewell to Marah Jacobson on her last day at Augsburg. In her 7 years of service to the university, Marah has been instrumental in the success of multiple initiatives in her role as Associate Provost and Title IX officer, including the implementation of a degree audit, co-leading our HLC reaffirmation, the development of a new gen ed curriculum, and the launch of our PSEO program. The Augsburg community has benefited greatly from her leadership and commitment. Marah will begin her new role as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Bemidji State University on April 7. Come join us as we celebrate Marah and wish her well on this exciting next step of her journey.

The countdown is on… the annual Staff Appreciation Event is happening TOMORROW Wednesday March 26th from 3:00 – 4:30 pm in the Hoversten Chapel, Foss Hall! I am conducting a research study about how episode patterns in schizophrenia may affect stigmatization levels among mental health practitioners and the general public in Minnesota, and I would like to include you in my research. Elisa V, CGEE’s Regional Co-director, needs our community’s support. Here is a note from her:

Hello, my name is Elisa.

Like many of my fellow citizens, I am now facing forced exile due to a dictatorship that denies its own citizens their rights.

I come from a working class background, and through hard work and perseverance, I was able to build a home of my own, an achievement that is often out of reach for people like me.

I am an educator, and my work has been about amplifying voices against injustice, building bridges between cultures, and guiding students in their learning. Creating inclusive spaces where diversity is valued and respected has been one of my greatest accomplishments. In my own small way, I have tried to contribute to a more just and compassionate world.

I am also a mother, a wife, and a rescuer of stray dogs. Now, I face the heartbreaking reality of leaving behind everything I worked so hard to build in my home country.

Many friends have reached out, asking how they can support me as I relocate my family—including my eight rescue dogs—to safety. In response, I have created this GoFundMe to help us start over in a new country, Costa Rica.

From the depths of my heart, I am grateful for every word of encouragement, every act of kindness, and every bit of support you have shown. Thank you for standing with me in this difficult time.

Keep Our Community Safe: Don’t Hold Doors

Safety on campus is a shared responsibility. Preventing behaviors like “piggybacking” or “tailgating” (letting individuals without a fob follow others through fob-access doors) is an important way we maintain a safe environment for all Auggies. While it may feel uncomfortable, it’s important not to hold secure doors open for people you don’t know.

CAMPUS ACCESS REMINDERS:

– Use your own fob, every time.

– If someone you don’t know approaches a locked door at the same time as you, step back and allow them to fob in ahead of you. If they don’t have a fob, they should contact the Department of Public Safety or call the person they are trying to meet.

– If you use your fob to let someone you don’t know into a secure area, it is your responsibility to escort them to their destination and stay with them until they connect with the individual(s) they are on campus to meet.

– If someone you don’t know follows you into a residence hall, contact the Department of Public Safety at (612) 330-1717 immediately.

Plan Extra Travel Time on 94 This Spring and Summer

Starting in April 2025, MnDOT will begin bridge preservation and maintenance work on five bridges along I-94 in Minneapolis, affecting travel time and highway access to Augsburg. Please double-check route availability and plan extra time when traveling to campus via 94 during this time.

During construction between early April and mid-June, 94 will be reduced to two lanes of traffic in each direction between Hwy 55/Hiawatha Ave. and the Franklin Ave. bridge over 94. Several ramps, bridges, and bike trails near Augsburg will be closed, including:

– Huron Blvd to eastbound I-94
– Huron Blvd to westbound I-94
– Westbound I-94 to Riverside Ave
– Riverside Ave. to westbound I-94
– Westbound I-94 to Cedar Ave/S. 7th St. (anticipated to reopen May 17)
– S. 6th St. to eastbound I-94 (anticipated April 7 through late April)

The Riverside Ave. bridge will be closed for up to three weeks starting in early May, with a detour to 25th Ave. S. The Hiawatha LRT bike trail will be closed for three weeks between 15th Ave. S. and The Cabooze, with a detour on Cedar Ave.

Once work along westbound 94 is completed, traffic will be reduced to two lanes in both directions on the normally westbound (north) side of the interstate. Specific dates and closures for this phase of work will be determined and communicated in early summer.

The Christensen Scholars Program is a small group of ten academically accomplished students who share an interest in the theological and practical exploration of Christian community and vocation. The experience promises to be intellectual, communal, theological, dialogical, challenging, and practical.
