Travel Advisory: Upcoming Construction on 94

Starting in April 2025, MnDOT will begin bridge preservation and maintenance work on five bridges along I-94 in Minneapolis, affecting travel time and highway access to Augsburg. Please double-check route availability and plan extra time when traveling to campus via 94 during this time.

During construction between early April and mid-June, 94 will be reduced to two lanes of traffic in each direction between Hwy 55/Hiawatha Ave. and the Franklin Ave. bridge over 94. Several ramps, bridges, and bike trails near Augsburg will be closed, including:

– Huron Blvd to eastbound I-94
– Huron Blvd to westbound I-94
– Westbound I-94 to Riverside Ave
– Riverside Ave. to westbound I-94
– Westbound I-94 to Cedar Ave/S. 7th St. (anticipated to reopen May 17)
– S. 6th St. to eastbound I-94 (anticipated April 7 through late April)

The Riverside Ave. bridge will be closed for up to three weeks starting in early May, with a detour to 25th Ave. S. The Hiawatha LRT bike trail will be closed for three weeks between 15th Ave. S. and The Cabooze, with a detour on Cedar Ave.

Once work along westbound 94 is completed, traffic will be reduced to two lanes in both directions on the normally westbound (north) side of the interstate. Specific dates and closures for this phase of work will be determined and communicated in early summer.

Public Safety Reminder: Use Your Own Fob (Every Time)

Safety on campus is a shared responsibility. Preventing behaviors like “piggybacking” or “tailgating” (letting individuals without a fob follow others through fob-access doors) is an important way we maintain a safe environment for all Auggies. While it may feel uncomfortable, it’s important not to hold secure doors open for people you don’t know.

CAMPUS ACCESS REMINDERS:

– Use your own fob, every time.

– If someone you don’t know approaches a locked door at the same time as you, step back and allow them to fob in ahead of you. If they don’t have a fob, they should contact the Department of Public Safety or call the person they are trying to meet.

– If you use your fob to let someone you don’t know into a secure area, it is your responsibility to escort them to their destination and stay with them until they connect with the individual(s) they are on campus to meet.

– If someone you don’t know follows you into a residence hall, contact the Department of Public Safety at (612) 330-1717 immediately.

Explore Christian Community and Vocation: Apply for Christensen Scholars

The Christensen Scholars Program is a small group of ten academically accomplished students who share an interest in the theological and practical exploration of Christian community and vocation. The experience promises to be intellectual, communal, theological, dialogical, challenging, and practical.
Benefits
– Develop a deeper understanding of your own vocation in a caring community.
– Create a deeper sense of belonging among your peers.
– Learn new ways to live out your faith on a daily basis within the community.
– All-expenses-paid pilgrimage to Holden Village Retreat Center in the Cascade mountains.

2025 Christensen Scholar Application Form

Interfaith Scholars – Deadline Extended Until Friday, March 28

The Interfaith Scholars program is a yearlong course and service learning opportunity taught by the Interfaith Institute’s Executive Director and Professor of Religion, Najeeba Syeed.

Interfaith Scholars will explore the religious diversity of the Augsburg student body, the wider Twin Cities community, and the United States by learning from guest speakers from religious communities, business professionals, and other leaders across various sectors. Students may also be engaged in community service learning, and participating in and attending events on behalf of the program. Participants will gain leadership skills by learning and practicing how to converse respectfully with others about what they believe, why it matters, and how it propels us to service in the world.

Students with any religious or spiritual worldview as well as students without a connection to a religious tradition are encouraged to apply.

The deadline for applications for the 2025-26 student cohort has been extended.
Applications are now due on Friday, March 28.

Third Way Civics Faculty Workshop Application

Third Way Civics (3WC) Faculty Development Workshop Application

This workshop features an active, high impact pedagogy for all fields, focused on the close reading of texts and data, reasoning to sound arguments, and student perspective taking. The workshop is open and appropriate for faculty from all disciplines, and does not require adding any new content to a course. It is an active pedagogical approach to teaching the content of any course. The 3CW pedagogy has been featured at conferences around the world, and is currently being used by both large and small universities across the United States.

All workshop participants will receive a $1,000 stipend for completing the workshop, and become eligible for additional $1,000 stipends if they implement the 3WC pedagogy in a future courses.

Workshop Dates: May 27 & 28, 2025, one and half day schedule. Schedule details to be communicated later.

Fostering Belonging: How Faculty Can Support Immigrant Students, April 7, 3:40 p.m.

Please join CTL for Fostering Belonging: How Faculty Can Support Immigrant Students, a workshop led by our immigrant students. They will share their experiences of inclusion on campus, discuss what changes could make a difference, and introduce their perspectives on classroom empowerment. The session will include a short introduction, small group engagement, and a deeper discussion, allowing attendees to ask questions and gain a fuller understanding of how to create a more supportive learning environment.

Help Save the State Grant

Augsburg community members can help college students here and statewide by asking your legislators to save the Minnesota State Grant program. There’s a large ($240 million) shortfall in funding for next fall that will lead to grants being cut or eliminated if the state doesn’t act soon. It’s easy to learn more and send a quick note to your local legislators with a tool from the Minnesota Private College Council. With budgeting decisions getting made now, reach out soon, no later than March 28.

Vendor Demonstrations for the Cloud ERP Project This Week

What is the Cloud ERP Project, you ask? Augsburg is moving to a new comprehensive cloud-based information system between 2025 and 2029. If you’re a student, faculty, or staff member, then this project will be changing how you interact with Augsburg online over the next few years—registering for classes, submitting grades, viewing payslips, and more.

Part of this process will be on campus visits from three vendors showing what their solutions offer. The majority of these sessions will be with key departments (Human Resources, Finance, Registrar, and Advising) and some sessions will be aimed at a more general audience.

Below are times for the second vendor demonstrations by Oracle aimed at a general audience. All are welcome to attend these sessions, though your role will determine which one is most relevant to you.

I am conducting a research study about how episode patterns in schizophrenia may affect stigmatization levels among mental health practitioners and the general public in Minnesota, and I would like to include you in my research. Announcing the 1st annual Auggie Baby Shark Entrepreneur Contest!

Compete for $10,000 in prize money for your business or social enterprise idea.

The Augsburg Baby Shark Contest encourages students to explore entrepreneurial potential, seek out new opportunities, and use the skills & knowledge acquired to launch a new business. This annual event is organized by the School of Business and is open to all current Augsburg University undergraduate & graduate students. In order to be eligible, students must be registered in the semester of competition with a valid Augsburg University student ID.

COMPETITION DETAILS
● Individuals & teams consisting of one to 4 students
● All academic schools/disciplines are eligible
● Business Ventures for students focused on more traditional commercial opportunities. These can be business-to-consumer, business-to-business, technology-based ventures, & are typically for-profit models.
● Social Ventures for students whose ventures are primarily focused on solving significant social problems — such as poverty alleviation, social injustice, and environmental sustainability – using entrepreneurial methods in order to craft innovative solutions that are effective and scalable. These can be non-profit, for-profit, or a mixture of both (hybrid models).

TODAY – Make a Friend, Take a Walk on Campus for Faculty and Staff Collaboration

We’re hosting Make a Friend Monday, March 24th.

Faculty and Staff will meet in the lobby of Christensen at 12:30 PM, where we will walk as a group around campus for 45 minutes of exercise and conversation.

Then, at 1:15 PM we’ll spend 45 minutes chatting and having lunch together to get to know our new friends. If you’d prefer to just join us for the cafeteria lunch and conversation, let us know or meet us in the Commons and save us a table. This is informal, so please don’t feel like you have to stay the whole time – we will walk loops around campus and people are free to come and go.

The weather forecast looks beautiful, 45 degrees and sunny. Bring or wear your comfortable walking shoes and a water bottle if you want. We are hoping for lots of sunshine.

Folks who want to join for just the walk at 12:30 PM or just the 1:15 PM social part are welcome to join us– we hope to make a new friend or two. Please invite your friends!
