MUS 271: Introduction to Music Therapy, 2 credits

Fall 2026, Thursdays, 12:20-1:50pm

Instructor: Jessica De Villers, MA, MT-BC (devillers@augsburg.edu)

MUS 271 provides an overview of the profession of music therapy. The course will include a review of theoretical foundations regarding music and human behavior, the functions of music in society, and the development of music therapy as a profession. Introduction to the structures and processes of music therapy sessions along with demonstration of basic music skills needed as a professional will also be covered.

This course would be an excellent elective for students planning to work in fields related to education, social sciences, and health care.

The Augsburg Symphony Orchestra is looking for students from all majors who would like to continue their musical journey. Whether you were a member of your high school orchestra or haven’t played regularly in a while, we’d love to welcome you.

Playing in the orchestra is a fun way to:
