CTL’s Back to School Workshops August 26-27

The Augsburg Center for Teaching and Learning is pleased to invite all staff and faculty to join us August 26 & 27 for our annual Back to School program, 9 to 4 pm, Oren Gateway Center.

Wednesday morning kicks off with all-school meetings, followed by a selection of professional development workshops offered by colleagues for all staff and faculty. Please find this year’s Back to School program and register in advance for your preferred sessions by August 24.

Course Offering: Introduction to Music Therapy, Fall 2026

MUS 271: Introduction to Music Therapy, 2 credits

Fall 2026, Thursdays 12:20-1:50pm

Instructor: Jessica De Villers, MA, MT-BC (deviller@augsburg.edu)

MUS 271 provides an introduction and overview into the profession of music therapy. The course will include a review of theoretical foundations regarding music and human behavior, the functions of music in society, and the development of music therapy as a profession. Introduction into the structures and processes of music therapy sessions along with demonstration of basic music skills needed as a professional.

This course would be an excellent elective for students planning to work in fields related to education, social sciences, and health care.

Earn a $2,000 Stipend as a Disability Advocacy Scholar

EDC 391: Disability Advocacy Scholars Fellowship is now open for registration.

Augsburg students are invited to join this yearlong fellowship focused on disability justice, advocacy, leadership, and educational change. Fellows will engage with peers, faculty, and community partners while developing practical advocacy skills and exploring how disability, access, identity, and justice intersect.

Students who successfully engage in and complete the yearlong fellowship will receive a $2,000 stipend.

You do not need to be a Special Education major. Students from across Augsburg are encouraged to apply.

Reserving a Space or Planning an Event – Reminders

If you are looking to reserve a meeting room, or host an event on campus, please make sure you start with an Event Request before you begin your planning. Make sure you click that you require additional event services if you need any of the following. Clicking this option signals that an event planner needs to be involved:

– AV/Tech support (beyond the teacher station)
– Catering (external catering is only permitted for small groups, and must be approved)
– Decor
– Room set up (beyond what is there as standard classroom set-up)
– Parking for off-campus guests
– If you are unsure

Finally, if you don’t require any additional services, and decide to reconfigure the room, please be sure to reset it the way it was found.

The Augsburg Bonner Community Leaders Program is recruiting for 2026-2027!

Become a part of a cohort of students committed to creating a more just world by engaging with communities surrounding Augsburg. We are a student-centric 4-year program, focusing on developing leadership skills, gaining social impact work experience, and understanding systems through experiential learning. We work 8-10 hours/week in local placements, and reflect through weekly meetings. Students may have opportunities to participate in conferences and travel.

Requirements:
– Eligible for Work-Study
– First-Generation and/or Low-Income Student
– Have a passion for community-centric work
– Have at least 2 years remaining at Augsburg University
– Commit to full program participation
Wednesday evenings availability (4:30-6:30 pm)
8-10 hours of work in a community-centered placement

TODAY: Primary Election Polling in Marshall Room

Today is the 2026 primary election in Minnesota. A polling place will be open in the Marshall Room, Christensen Center, from 7 a.m.–8 p.m. Voters will select candidates to advance to the November general election in partisan races (such as governor, U.S. senator, U.S. representative, state representative, and MN attorney general) and nonpartisan races (such as county attorney and school board).

For more information, including about who can vote, how to register to vote (including at your polling place), and different ways to vote in Minnesota, visit Augsburg’s voter engagement website.

If you have questions about voting or need help, you can call or text the Minnesota Secretary of State call center from 8 a.m.–4 p.m..

Yoga in the Garden

Stretch and root your body to the earth. Breathe and water your spirit. Yoga teaches us that wherever we put our care and attention life grows. Join us in the Augsburg Community Garden on Thursday Aug 20, 10:30-11:30am for a gentle yoga practice led by Ananya Dance Theatre.

The class is designed for families to participate together. Bring a towel or blanket! Snacks and water provided. No prior yoga experience necessary.
