Our Mission in Practice: Complete the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program

submitted by munawara@augsburg.edu

Federal policies may change, but Augsburg’s mission has not. We remain an engaged community committed to “intentional diversity in its life and work” and to educating students to become informed citizens, thoughtful stewards, critical thinkers, and responsible leaders.

Living out that mission requires more than good intentions. It asks each of us to continue learning, reflect on how our experiences shape our interactions, and develop the skills to create a community in which students and colleagues of all identities can thrive.

The Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program offers faculty and staff a meaningful way to strengthen those skills. Through seven workshops, participants develop greater capacity to:

Communicate and navigate conflict across cultural differences

Recognize and interrupt unconscious bias

Create more welcoming and inclusive spaces

Better support LGBTQIA+ communities

Understand disability as an important dimension of diversity

Recognize and respond to microinequities

Engage thoughtfully and effectively across differences

Whether you are beginning the program or have only a few workshops remaining, you are encouraged to take the next step toward completing your certificate.

Participation may no longer be required per federal policy, but the work remains central to who we are. Every employee contributes to the culture our students and colleagues experience. Completing the certificate is one tangible way to deepen that contribution and help bring Augsburg’s mission to life.
