Timely Warning: Motor Vehicle Tampering

submitted by publicsafety@augsburg.edu

In compliance with the “Timely Warning” provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Augsburg University Department of Public Safety (DPS) is giving notice of a concerning incident that occurred, as reported below, Parking Lot B.

REPORTED OFFENSE: Motor Vehicle Tampering

On August 25th at approximately 6:25 AM DPS received a report of a vehicle break-in in Lot B. The report was made by an Augsburg employee who, while walking through the lot, saw the damage to the vehicle. DPS responded and documented the damage and took photos. It was later learned that there were two additional vehicles broken into in Lot B. Minneapolis Police along with their Forensic Lab processed the vehicles.

STATUS: DPS and the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) are currently investigating this incident. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to contact MPD (911) or Augsburg DPS at 612-330-1717.

REPORTING SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: DPS is grateful to the members of the Augsburg community who promptly called 612-330-1717 to notify DPS of this incident. Please report any and all concerns that may impact our campus community. If You See Something – Say Something (612-330-1717). We also encourage you to utilize the resources available on our website: http://www.augsburg.edu/dps and in the CampusShield safety app (available for free download on Google Play and iTunes app store).

Join Augsburg Choir 2026-27

submitted by robisonj@augsburg.edu

Choral music has a long and rich tradition at Augsburg, and the Augsburg Choir is a wonderful place to make great music, build friendships, and find community on campus. Choir is open to students from all majors, and I hope you’ll consider making it part of your Augsburg experience.

Choir rehearses Monday–Thursday during the 3:30/3:40 block. Our first class meeting will be Wednesday, September 2 at 3:30 p.m. in the Choir Rehearsal Room in the Anderson Music Building (Room M2).

Please fill out the Choral Placement Hearing Form to choose a time that works for you. If you cannot attend a choral placement before the first day of classes, don’t worry. Simply indicate that on your form, and I will find another time to hear you. https://forms.gle/93yCTBJZvk9ujdq96

The hearing is quick, simple, and low-pressure—there is nothing to be nervous about! You are welcome to bring a song of your choice to sing for me, but you do not need to prepare anything. You can simply show up. We’ll do a few vocal exercises so I can get to know you and your voice and determine the choir section that is the best fit for you.

Looking forward to hearing you!
Jennaya Robison, Interim Director of the Augsburg Choir and Artistic Director of the National Lutheran Choir

This Week’s Research Development Internship Scam

submitted by philldal@augsburg.edu

Hello everyone,

As students are coming back to campus, the Internet Scams are too! There is another one involving internships with the subject line: APPLY NOW–AUGSBURG UNIVERSITY Research Development Internship. Because this is now the second scam involving careers, internships, and research in the past few months, I want to send out some tips for being more cautious!

Here are some details from the scam email to pay attention to:

Note the From: as it is clearly not an Augsburg email: <makengems@consolidated.net>
Date: Mon, Aug 24, 2026 at 9:29 PM
Subject: APPLY NOW–AUGSBURG UNIVERSITY Research Development Internship:

Also note that this is not an office on the Augsburg campus, The Office of Career And Employment Services at Augsburg University.

Also pay attention to the email they are asking you to respond to: philldal.augsburg@gmail.com; this is not an augsburg.edu address.

And finally, any internship or research opportunities will be posted on URGO’s website and not emailed to you from a personal email.

I hope this helps! Please remain cautious with your information and check websites and addresses before replying to anything!

Hennepin County Library Card Email – No That’s Not Spam

submitted by fillbran@augsburg.edu

This week faculty and staff will be getting an email in their Augsburg inboxes with the subject line “Hennepin County Library E-Card.” The email will most likely appear to be from Hennepin.Mail.Service and will contain your HCLib digital library card information, including your assigned library PIN (which you can change) and information about what services and resources are now open to you through the county.

**Please note: if you already have a Hennepin County library card, you can ignore this email.**

Augsburg University is partnering with Hennepin County Libraries to expand the number of electronic database services we have available for our community – and can be used for assigned class work! Students will need to enroll themselves, so please encourage them to do so using our helpful FAQ.

If you have questions, please reach out to your friendly Augsburg librarians!

Our Mission in Practice: Complete the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program

submitted by munawara@augsburg.edu

Federal policies may change, but Augsburg’s mission has not. We remain an engaged community committed to “intentional diversity in its life and work” and to educating students to become informed citizens, thoughtful stewards, critical thinkers, and responsible leaders.

Living out that mission requires more than good intentions. It asks each of us to continue learning, reflect on how our experiences shape our interactions, and develop the skills to create a community in which students and colleagues of all identities can thrive.

The Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program offers faculty and staff a meaningful way to strengthen those skills. Through seven workshops, participants develop greater capacity to:

Communicate and navigate conflict across cultural differences

Recognize and interrupt unconscious bias

Create more welcoming and inclusive spaces

Better support LGBTQIA+ communities

Understand disability as an important dimension of diversity

Recognize and respond to microinequities

Engage thoughtfully and effectively across differences

Whether you are beginning the program or have only a few workshops remaining, you are encouraged to take the next step toward completing your certificate.

To view upcoming workshops and register for a session, click:

https://sites.augsburg.edu/diversity/events-calendar/

To learn more about the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program, workshop descriptions, and completion requirements, click:

https://sites.augsburg.edu/diversity/certificate-program/

Participation may no longer be required per federal policy, but the work remains central to who we are. Every employee contributes to the culture our students and colleagues experience. Completing the certificate is one tangible way to deepen that contribution and help bring Augsburg’s mission to life.

This Fall: Preparing for Workday (HR and Finance)

submitted by farrisr@augsburg.edu

As we head into the fall semester, faculty and staff will start hearing more about the upcoming transition to Workday. Workday is a cloud-based information system that will replace Unit4/Agresso, starting with the HR and Finance modules in late December and early January. Our HR, Finance, and IT colleagues have been working hard all summer to prepare for this transition.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT?
Throughout the fall, faculty and staff can expect to learn more about the project through communication in A-mail, digital screens, the IT blog, surveys, and the December Focused Conversation.

HOW WILL I LEARN TO USE WORKDAY?
Training will be offered in multiple modes starting later this fall: Workday “road shows,” PDF job aids, videos, FAQs, and targeted training sessions for specific groups (e.g., managers). Our goal is to provide this training just in time when it is most useful.

WILL THERE BE HELP AVAILABLE DURING AND AFTER THE TRANSITION?
Yes! Project staff will offer Workday office hours, more “road shows,” and a dedicated support email address. We are also identifying key individuals within divisions who will serve as a point of contact, answer basic questions, and connect colleagues to support resources.

To learn more, visit the Workday project website.

2026 Christensen Symposium (October 21)

submitted by myers@augsburg.edu

The Bernhard M. Christensen Symposium

Ross Murray (BA ’00, MBA ’09) will be our speaker at this year’s Christensen Symposium.

Breaking Through and Building Up: Using Your Story to Inspire Action
Wednesday October 21, 2026
12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
Hoversten Chapel, Augsburg University

We are living at a time when the need for community and truth is more urgent than ever. The barriers we face are political, technological, and cultural. They feel larger than any one person or organization can handle. Yet, in spite of all these barriers, people are organizing around pressing issues and breaking through bubbles of mis- (or dis-) information with authenticity, personal connection, and storytelling. Their motivation for action comes from a variety of sources, but a shared calling is moving people to identify problems and pragmatically work toward solutions, inspiring others to action in the process. Ross will help you understand the influence you already wield and how to inspire and equip people to act for social justice through your media platforms and real-life communities.

Ross Murray (BA ’00, MBA ’09) is the Vice President at the GLAAD Media Institute, where he uses GLAAD’s best practices to provide activist, spokesperson, and media engagement training/education for LGBTQ and allied community members, the media industry, and advocacy organizations to accelerate acceptance.
