Garden plants and “stuff” available starting Wednesday

submitted by greena@augsburg.edu

This summer, the community gardeners worked with Oslund and Associates to envision a new space together. The time has come to make that space a reality!

Starting this Wednesday, Oct. 18, any plants, bricks, rocks, and structures left in the garden will be looking for either permanent or temporary homes. Our gardeners will be taking out what they want to save before then, and the community is invited to come and grab the rest. Please come and get them! Also please respect any signs placed on objects or plants that just haven’t been able to be moved yet. If there’s no sign attached – it’s all yours!

Plants available: raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb, chives, mint, bee balm, columbine, nettle, etc.

We will have space for perennials in the new garden next year, so if you are willing to take some home for the winter, plant them in a temporary space, and bring them back for us in the spring, let me know!

Help spread around the love and plants grown in this garden over the years!

Donate Your Grocery Bags

submitted by greena@augsburg.edu

Campus Kitchen can repurpose your clean, in-tact grocery bags for our produce deliveries on Saturdays! Paper bags work best, but we’ll take plastic ones as well. Drop off your bags at the Campus Kitchen closet near the elevator on the top floor of Christensen.

Every Saturday, we glean produce at the Mill City Farmer’s Market and then pack ~40 grocery bags for elders in The Cedars apartment building a few blocks away. Imagine your leftover grocery bags given new life as they are stuffed with greens, squash, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, and all kinds of good smelling herbs!

Donate Paper or Plastic Bags to Campus Kitchen

submitted by greena@augsburg.edu

Instead of recycling those paper or plastic bags taking up space in your house, bring them to Campus Kitchen! Every Saturday from now until November, we’ll be gleaning produce from the Mill City Farmer’s Market, packing it up into sample bags, and distributing it to elders in Cedar-Riverside. If you have *clean* paper or plastic grocery bags, please drop them off at the Campus Kitchen closet next to the elevator on the top floor of Christensen (near kitchen back entrance). We use 30-40 bags per week, so keep them coming!

(If you really want to recycle those plastic bags, though, you can take them back to a grocery store or Target)

Finnish Designed Mid-Century Stack Stools for Sale

submitted by weisss@augsburg.edu

Hey, you mid-century Scandinavian design-loving fool, check it out: I’m selling a set of four stack stools designed by the famous Alvar Aalto. You know, that Finnish dude who was an architect and designer who pioneered bentwood design ahead of the times and that Ikea tries poorly to mimic. The stools sport Aalto’s patented 6-kerf design.

These stools were imported by Scandicrafts of Dobbs Ferry, New York. Likely from the 1940s or so, they show wear appropriate to their age. All the veneer is in place. I’m asking $2,100 for the set. Learn more at the link below.

Student Hosts

submitted by mangana@augsburg.edu

The Nobel Peace Prize Forum is seeking students who can act as hosts for visiting students in the Fall of 2017. Students are asked to step forward as hosts to other college and university students who will be visiting the Twin Cities for the Forum from the 14th-16th of September.
If you know you are living on campus next Fall, then you would make a perfect host! Anderson, Luther, and Mortensen would make great spaces for visiting students to stay, but any on campus living area would be fantastic. We are looking for students who would be willing to help out and provide space for 2-3 nights.

As a host you will have the opportunity to get to know a student outside of Augsburg. It is a great experience that allows you to meet some new faces and contribute to the college’s rich academic community. By being a host you can get to know a student from another college or university and get to know more about other colleges and how they run. You will be the student’s best introduction to the city! If you want to gain a new connection and meet students from other colleges/universities, then this is perfect for you!

If you would like to be a student host, or have any questions about hosting please email or call!
