Augsburg TRIO/Student Support Services (SSS) Grant Renewed

submitted by rodrig@augsburg.edu

Augsburg University, chosen by the U.S. Department of Education to receive a renewal TRIO grant for Student Support Services (SSS) for 2025-2030, will receive $306,511 annually for five years, totaling $1,532,555, contingent on federal funding. This grant, which Augsburg has had since 2001, aims to enhance student support, assist first-generation, low-income, and disabled students in achieving success, persistence, and graduation. Augsburg TRIO/SSS provides comprehensive services, including academic advising, financial literacy, career exploration, and assistance. The team works directly with over 160 students and indirectly with many others, enhancing academic success and increasing the likelihood of graduation within six years with minimal debt. Augsburg is also home to TRIO McNair Scholars.

TRIO SSS, one of eight federal TRIO programs funded under the Higher Education Act of 1965, removes social, academic, and cultural barriers to higher education. Since its inception in 1968, it has helped millions of low-income, first-generation students graduate, contributing to their communities and the economy.

President Paul Pribbenow and Provost & Senior VP for Academic and Student Affairs, Paula O’Loughlin, have supported the program’s mission. Amanda Burgess and Catherine Maun, Student Financial Services, have also committed to the program and its students.

The grant writing team, including Katy Hahn, John Anderson, Kelsey Richardson Blackwell, Kevin Cheatham, and Tina Tavera, has secured the grant through their hard work and expertise.
