Orange Shirt day is recognized on Sept. 30th annually and is a national day of remembrance of those who survived Indian boarding schools and those who did not come home. This year the Augsburg Indigenous Student Association is providing orange shirt pins for Augsburg students, staff, and faculty. Orange shirt pins will be available from Sept. 23-30 in the Oyate Commons (Lower Level Christensen Center). Any questions can be directed to waukaug@augsburg.edu.

Camp Eden Wood is a short drive from campus, but it feels far away from everything. We will have games, worship around the campfire, and fun! We hope you can join us.

Join us for our first How We Thrive talk of the academic year. Eve Christensen, our Assistant Director of Campus Life will be our speaker. Eve is proud to have a Bachelor of Arts in English Writing and German from Luther College and a Master of Arts in Leadership in Student Affairs from the University of St. Thomas. She considers herself fortunate to mentor, learn from, and celebrate students across every part of their journey here at Augsburg. Her personal story is informed by an interest in empowering those around me and helping students uncover their unique inclinations that drive them toward a life of fulfillment and joy. Come and learn from Eve’s story and wisdom.

The Sabo Community Engagement Council is entering into a year-long collaboration with the East Phillips Neighborhood Institute (EPNI)! Come hear from EPNI Executive Director and Auggie Alum Joe Vital, Urban Farmer Kieran Morris, and Finance Director Daniel Colton-Schmidt about the Roof Depot project and their work with communities in the East Phillips neighborhood. EPNI staff will be on campus in the coming semester for guest lectures and workshops, and there will be opportunities for you to propose projects with them in the spring semester. Everyone in our campus community is welcome to attend!

We will offer a blessing of the animals in Hoversten Chapel on October 2 at 11:50 am. You are invited to bring your pet or emotional support or service animal to chapel that day or send a photo of your pet by September 29 to Janice Dames at dames@augsburg.edu to be included in the slideshow. On this day, animal life in all its forms is celebrated. October 4 was originally chosen for the blessing of the animals because it is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, a nature lover and patron saint of animals and the environment.

You’ll learn to recognize signs of overdose, get hands-on training to administer life-saving Naloxone, and learn about strategies and steps to reduce overdose deaths in your community.
