Dear Augsburg community,
Augsburg University Department of Public Safety (DPS) is issuing this crime advisory in order to increase campus awareness and encourage extra precautions to be taken in regard to safety and security.
Reported Offense(s): Scam Links and Subsequent Threatening Messages
On September 23, 2025, at approximately 3 p.m., DPS received a report that on or around September 19, 2025, an Augsburg student received a link through a GroupMe chat that purported to be about the sale of a MacBook. After clicking on the link, the student was asked to share banking account information and personal photos for various artisan-style products. The student later began receiving threats and violent imagery after attempting to block communications from the sender. The University has reason to believe that this scam link was also shared with other students.

There is not a description of the suspect who sent the link.

DPS is currently investigating this incident. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to contact Augsburg DPS at 612-330-1717.
