The Augsburg music department gleefully invites you to enjoy a performance of music for woodwind instruments. The program will feature the Augsburg University Flute Ensemble and solo performances by students of Joan Hutton and Julie Johnson playing pieces by Claude Bolling, Francis Poulenc, Otar Taktakishvili, Lucien Niverd, Jennifer Higdon, Paul Creston, and more. Maybe you’ve never heard of these composers—that’s okay, you should come anyway!

The news of the death of Faculty Emerita Mary Anderson Kingsley was shared with the Augsburg community in September. At that time, funeral arrangements were pending. Mary’s Celebration of Life has been scheduled for Saturday, November 8 at Augsburg University in Gundale Chapel located in the Hagfors Center (700 21st Ave South, Minneapolis).

Capitol Pathways is a paid spring internship program for college students. With the long-term goal of making Minnesota state government and policymaking more representative of our diverse communities, this program provides students leadership, legislative and career readiness training alongside an immersive internship experience with an organization working in policy during the legislative session. This is a spring internship from January – May, 2025.

Please join us for an evening showing of the brand new Twin Cities Public Television documentary Paradox: Echoes of Reform & the Minneapolis Police (https://www.tpt.org/paradox-echoes-reform-minneapolis-police/), hosted by Augsburg’s own Michael Lansing and featuring Daniel Bergin, filmmaker, Twin Cities Public Television executive producer, and historian. The film–a compelling blend of deep research, candid interviews, and rare archival footage–explores the history of police reform in Minneapolis. It illustrates how mayoral politics, community activism, and police union pushback shaped the city’s trajectory as well as what is at stake for the future of public safety.
Selections from the documentary shown, with Bergin and Lansing available for conversation during and after the showing. Teachers might consider using this as an assignment for their classes!
The documentary will be shown in Hagfors Center 150A at 5:30pm on November 5th.

On Thursday, October 30, we will hold an All Saints commemoration during our chapel service at 11:50 am in Hoversten Chapel. The custom of commemorating all of the saints of the church on a single day goes back at least to the third century. In this service we remember loved ones who have died, especially in this past year.. Please submit names you would like included in the service to the campus ministry office by emailing Janice Dames at dames@augsburg.edu by noon on October 28.

As-salamualaikum! My name is Sana Khan and I am currently a clinical psychology doctoral study student at Augsburg University. I am conducting a research study about how the mental health and religiosity of Muslim college students is impacted by Islamophobia and I would love to have you be a part of my study! The study will consist of an initial screener to make sure eligibility criteria is met and then scheduling an interview in which I ask you questions about your demographics and experience as a Muslim college student as related to Islam, religiosity, and Islamophobia. The interview should take approximately 45 minutes to an hour to complete. In recognition of First-Generation College Celebration Day (Nov. 8), Augsburg will be hosting events that highlight the first-generation college experience during the week of November 3. These events will be geared to students, but all of the university community is welcome to attend. More information will be provided in the upcoming weeks.
In addition to this programming, we’re asking faculty and staff to complete this brief First-Generation Augsburg Community Survey. The information collected will be used to create ongoing resources and support for first-generation students here at Augsburg. Please provide as much information as you’re comfortable sharing. NOTE: This is the same survey we released previous years, so if you already submitted a response, no need to do so again!

Summary of Position
This position works Monday – Friday from 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. and has a rotating weekend shift once a month.
Responsible for the general building / equipment maintenance and repair of multiple building, multi-level campus. Operate, maintain, and repair electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. Report malfunctions and maintain accurate and timely operating logs and maintenance records for building support systems.
Primary Responsibilities
– General Repairs: Perform general facility maintenance including, but not limited to carpentry, sheet rock, wall repairs, painting, interior finishes, ceiling, wall and floor tile, carpet repairs, door repairs hardware, locks & panic bars, and related clean up.
– Electrical Repairs: Perform electrical diagnostic trouble shooting, repairs / replacement up to the point of permit requirement for lighting, wall outlets, general motor replacement, and miscellaneous electrical equipment.
– Mechanical Repairs: Perform general mechanical repairs up to the point of permit requirements for all plumbing fixtures, iron and sheet metal work, miscellaneous pipe fittings, and general mechanical equipment repairs and pump repairs.
Additional Responsibilities
– HVAC Repairs: Perform general mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on all HVAC related equipment including belt replacement, filter replacement, parts replacement, refrigerant reclamation, related water system maintenance, fitting lubrication, miscellaneous repairs, record keeping, and general equipment/equipment area cleaning.
– Miscellaneous Duties: All other miscellaneous responsibilities as assigned as it relates to general maintenance of the College campus facilities and grounds.
– All other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).
Work Environment and Physical Demands
– Continuous standing, walking, lifting, bending, stretching, kneeling and squatting, and using fine motor skills.
– Exposure to temperature, noise, irritating substances, and poor ventilation at times.
– Ability to lift up to 80 pounds.

Join us for our next How We Thrive talk of the academic year. Amy Cooper, our Athletic Director will be our speaker. Amy Cooper is the Director of Athletics at Augsburg University. She is a Minneapolis native and Washburn High School graduate, Amy most recently served as Senior Associate Athletics Director at the University of St. Thomas and, prior to St. Thomas, as Associate Athletic Director for Administration at Howard University and Director of Athletics at Trinity Washington University. Amy is a decorated multi-sport student-athlete having excelled in soccer, track and field, basketball, and swimming and diving at Washburn. She went on to compete in Division I soccer at Howard University and became the first female HBCU player to earn All-Big South honors. Cooper holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Howard and a Master of Education from Prairie View A&M.

We will spend a lot of time hands on, building visualizations in Tableau and interpreting them. It will be more workshopping than lecture.
### How hard is the class?
The class is technical and will be very hands-on with Tableau so that you can tell employers about your skills. But if you did well in MIS 260 or DST 234 you’ll find this class easier.
### What will I walk away from this class with?
You’ll have a portfolio of Tableau dashboards you can talk about in interviews.
### Does this class fulfill any of the classes required for my major?
This is an elective, so it counts toward your total credit hour requirement, but does not fulfill any specific major requirements.

She is a Minneapolis native and Washburn High School graduate, Amy most recently served as Senior Associate Athletics Director at the University of St. Thomas and, prior to St. Thomas, as Associate Athletic Director for Administration at Howard University and Director of Athletics at Trinity Washington University. Amy is a decorated multi-sport student-athlete having excelled in soccer, track and field, basketball, and swimming and diving at Washburn. She went on to compete in Division I soccer at Howard University and became the first female HBCU player to earn All-Big South honors. Cooper holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Howard and a Master of Education from Prairie View A&M.

On Thursday, October 30, we will hold an All Saints commemoration during our chapel service at 11:50 am in Hoversten Chapel. The custom of commemorating all of the saints of the church on a single day goes back at least to the third century. In this service we remember loved ones who have died, especially in this past year. Please join us for an evening showing of the brand new Twin Cities Public Television documentary Paradox: Echoes of Reform & the Minneapolis Police (https://www.tpt.org/paradox-echoes-reform-minneapolis-police/), hosted by Augsburg’s own Michael Lansing and featuring Daniel Bergin, filmmaker, Twin Cities Public Television executive producer, and historian. The film–a compelling blend of deep research, candid interviews, and rare archival footage–explores the history of police reform in Minneapolis. It illustrates how mayoral politics, community activism, and police union pushback shaped the city’s trajectory as well as what is at stake for the future of public safety.
Selections from the documentary shown, with Bergin and Lansing available for conversation during and after the showing. Teachers might consider using this as an assignment for their classes!
The documentary will be shown in Hagfors Center 150A at 5:30pm on November 5th.

Open Enrollment, the annual period when benefits-eligible employees make their benefit choices for the coming year, begins Monday, November 3, and continues through Sunday, November 16. This is the only time of year when you may elect or change your benefits, unless you experience a qualifying life event.

Hello fellow Auggies,
We recently had two unexpected moodle outages during the day — 10/14 at about 2:20PM and 10/15 at about 10:50AM. Both times were attacks on moodle from the internet attempting to overwhelm our server and make it unavailable which they succeeded in doing for a period of time. On 10/15 we started adjusting our cyber defenses to fend off such attacks and are monitoring our network closely.
This was not a hack or compromise but what is called a “denial of service attack” which means someone just wants to overload our server. On 10/15 there were over 120 servers attacking the moodle server in a coordinated fashion.
We apologize for the unexpected interruption to moodle access and for any course disruption that may have caused.

URGO is offering up to $850 in travel funding for Augsburg undergraduates who have been accepted to present research at a professional conference. These funds can mitigate the high costs of travel such as airfare and lodging.
URGO has a limited amount of travel funding to award this academic year. Grants are awarded on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to submit a travel application as soon as possible.

On Thursday, October 30, we will hold an All Saints commemoration during our chapel service at 11:50 am in Hoversten Chapel. The custom of commemorating all of the saints of the church on a single day goes back at least to the third century. In this service we remember loved ones who have died, especially in this past year.. Please submit names you would like included in the service to the campus ministry office by emailing Janice Dames at dames@augsburg.edu by noon on October 28.

Join us for our next How We Thrive talk of the academic year. Amy Cooper, our Athletic Director will be our speaker. Amy Cooper is the Director of Athletics at Augsburg University. She is a Minneapolis native and Washburn High School graduate, Amy most recently served as Senior Associate Athletics Director at the University of St. Thomas and, prior to St. Thomas, as Associate Athletic Director for Administration at Howard University and Director of Athletics at Trinity Washington University. Amy is a decorated multi-sport student-athlete having excelled in soccer, track and field, basketball, and swimming and diving at Washburn. She went on to compete in Division I soccer at Howard University and became the first female HBCU player to earn All-Big South honors. Cooper holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Howard and a Master of Education from Prairie View A&M.
