Campus Closed for Election Day Holiday—Tuesday, November 4

Election day is November 4th. Since it is a university holiday, most buildings on campus will be closed, with a few exceptions.

– Christensen Center: Open 5 a.m.–8 p.m. (polling location)
– Athletic Facilities: Fitness Center and Weight Room open normal hours for students (no guests); no open gym, open hockey, or open figure skating
– Sverdrup 2nd Floor Computer Lab: Open by student request only
– Lindell Library: Closed

Aside from residence halls, all other buildings will not be accessible by fob, except for faculty and staff with pre-approved access. Students will not have access to classrooms and labs without prior approval. If there are departments or organizations that would like specific areas open for specific reasons, please have those requests sent to the Department of Public Safety by Monday morning.

If you have an emergency and need to access a building that is closed on November 4, please contact DPS at (612) 330-1717; access to closed buildings will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Advent Vespers Processional Party

Student Lee’RayVone G’everdloaahn will first share insights from original research conducted on the case for genocide as argued by the Republic of South Africa. This will be followed by reflections from Professor Sarah Combellick-Bidney. This free event is co-sponsored by the Department of Critical Race and Ethnicity Studies and Department of Political Science. All are welcome.

### What’s in it for me?
The key benefit is enhanced data visualization skills with Tableau and some examples to share during job interviews in your portfolio.

### What are the Prereqs?
The only prereq is either MIS 260 or DST 234.

### What will we do in class?
We will spend a lot of time hands on, building visualizations in Tableau and interpreting them. It will be more workshopping than lecture.

### How hard is the class?
The class is technical and will be very hands-on with Tableau so that you can tell employers about your skills. But if you did well in MIS 260 or DST 234 you’ll find this class easier.

### What will I walk away from this class with?
You’ll have a portfolio of Tableau dashboards you can talk about in interviews.

### Does this class fulfill any of the classes required for my major?
This is an elective, so it counts toward your total credit hour requirement, but does not fulfill any specific major requirements.

### When is the class?
The class is MWF from 10:50-11:50am on campus during Time 2 of Spring 2026 (03/09/26 – 05/08/26).

First Generation College Celebration Week – November 3-8

Augsburg will celebrate first–generation students, faculty and staff the week of November 3-8. First-Generation College Celebration Day is celebrated annually on Nov. 8 to commemorate the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Federal TRIO/ programs were created as part of the HEA to promote postsecondary access, retention and completion. The term “first-generation college student” was introduced by the TRIO community in the late 1970’s. A first-generation college student is typically defined as a student whose parents or guardians never earned a four-year bachelor’s degree. The Council for Opportunity in Education (COE), in partnership with NASPA, initiated the national first-generation college celebration.

Augsburg’s celebration will include a series of events from Nov.3-8. All in the Augsburg community are invited to celebrate. During the kick-off in the Christensen Center on Monday, we will have placards and buttons for folks who identify as first-generation and for those who support first-generation students. We also encourage staff and faculty to fill out the First-Generation Augsburg Community Survey: https://forms.gle/zzTmXfK4QQoFDmoE6.

Students will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for Sony Wireless Premium Noise Canceling Headphones. Students will receive one entry for each event they attend, and can enter the drawing by scanning a QR code at the event.

Seeking Muslim Students for Research Study

As-salamualaikum! My name is Sana Khan and I am currently a clinical psychology doctoral study student at Augsburg University. I am conducting a research study about how the mental health and religiosity of Muslim college students is impacted by Islamophobia and I would love to have you be a part of my study! The study will consist of an initial screener to make sure eligibility criteria is met and then scheduling an interview in which I ask you questions about your demographics and experience as a Muslim college student as related to Islam, religiosity, and Islamophobia. The interview should take approximately 45 minutes to an hour to complete. To thank you for your participation, upon completion of your interview, there will be an option at the end for you to enter your information to receive a $10 Visa gift card. Temporary Fitness/Wellness Specialist Role

Responsibilities:
•Carrying out the daily tasks that keep the facility running smoothly.
Meet with employees for facility orientations, fitness consultations for members and program design.
•Monitor, engage and instruct participants in the Wellness Center on the safe and effective use of cardiovascular, flexibility and strength training equipment within the facility.
•Maintain positive customer and client experience by providing the highest quality of service.
•Instruct group exercise classes and maintain a client base for personal training.
•The daily schedule would include closing a minimum of two nights a week (6:00pm) and opening (6:00am) once a week & rotating Fridays open/close.
•Be able to instruct group fitness classes.
•Be able to work onsite and assist the staff in working opening and closing shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience teaching group exercise classes with the ability to maintain a personal training client base.
• Able to work onsite and assist the staff in working opening and closing shifts.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.
• Ability to work well independently and in teams and manage multiple responsibilities needed.
• Microsoft Office knowledge helpful.
• American College of Exercise (ACE) certification preferred.
• Competency in prescribing and completing exercise testing.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be CPR/AED and First Aid certified.
• A degree in a health related-field

Pay Rate: $21–$24 per hour

Please join us for an evening showing of the brand new Twin Cities Public Television documentary Paradox: Echoes of Reform & the Minneapolis Police (https://www.tpt.org/paradox-echoes-reform-minneapolis-police/), hosted by Augsburg’s own Michael Lansing and featuring Daniel Bergin, filmmaker, Twin Cities Public Television executive producer, and historian. The film–a compelling blend of deep research, candid interviews, and rare archival footage–explores the history of police reform in Minneapolis. It illustrates how mayoral politics, community activism, and police union pushback shaped the city’s trajectory as well as what is at stake for the future of public safety.

Selections from the documentary shown, with Bergin and Lansing available for conversation during and after the showing. Teachers might consider using this as an assignment for their classes!

The documentary will be shown in Hagfors Center 150A at 5:30pm on November 5th.

The Augsburg Writing Center is Open!

The Augsburg University Writing Center is open and be ready to support your writing this semester! Our current hours are Sunday–Thursday, 5–8 p.m. (in-person only), with plans to expand our hours in October. We are located across from Advising on the second floor of the library.

At the Writing Center, trained peer tutors work with writers at all levels and in all disciplines. Whether you are just beginning an assignment and need help generating ideas, in the middle of a draft and looking for feedback on structure or clarity, or polishing a final version before submitting, our tutors are here to help. They can also support you in developing stronger arguments, refining your style, citing sources, and building effective revision strategies.
You can bring in any kind of writing project—course essays, research papers, lab reports, resumes, personal statements, creative pieces, or even application materials. No matter the stage of the process or the type of writing, tutors provide constructive, supportive feedback that is focused on helping you grow as a writer.
