Capitol Pathways Program – Paid Internships at the State Capitol – Applications Due November 6

Capitol Pathways is a paid spring internship program for college students. With the long-term goal of making Minnesota state government and policymaking more representative of our diverse communities, this program provides students leadership, legislative and career readiness training alongside an immersive internship experience with an organization working in policy during the legislative session. This is a spring internship from January – May, 2025.

Faculty and Staff Headshot Day, October 29 (Few Spots Remain)

MarComm’s photographer, Courtney Perry, will be on campus to take headshots for Augsburg faculty and staff on Wednesday, October 29 from 12:30–2:30pm in the Hagfors Lobby. Please sign up for 1 time slot and be prepared to have your photo taken during that timeframe (a maximum of 5 people can sign up for the same time). Photos will be shared 1-2 weeks after the event via an A-Mail post.

Invitation to Participate in Research: Tinder Use and Mental Health Outcomes

My name is Evan Bloyer, and I am a graduate student in the Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology program here at Augsburg University. My clinical research project is understanding how Tinder use impacts mental health outcomes, particularly self-esteem and body esteem. I have received Augsburg University’s IRB approval and am able to collect data from eligible participants. To participate, please click on the link below. Documentary on Policing in Minneapolis with the Filmmakers, Including Augsburg Professor Michael Lansing

Please join us for an evening showing of the brand new Twin Cities Public Television documentary Paradox: Echoes of Reform & the Minneapolis Police (https://www.tpt.org/paradox-echoes-reform-minneapolis-police/), hosted by Augsburg’s own Michael Lansing and featuring Daniel Bergin, filmmaker, Twin Cities Public Television executive producer, and historian. The film–a compelling blend of deep research, candid interviews, and rare archival footage–explores the history of police reform in Minneapolis.  It illustrates how mayoral politics, community activism, and police union pushback shaped the city’s trajectory as well as what is at stake for the future of public safety.

Selections from the documentary shown, with Bergin and Lansing available for conversation during and after the showing. Teachers might consider using this as an assignment for their classes!

The documentary will be shown in Hagfors Center 150A at 5:30pm on November 5th.

Celebration of Life for Mary Kingsley Scheduled November 8 at 1 p.m.

The news of the death of Faculty Emerita Mary Anderson Kingsley was shared with the Augsburg community in September. At that time, funeral arrangements were pending. Mary’s Celebration of Life has been scheduled for Saturday, November 8 at Augsburg University in Gundale Chapel located in the Hagfors Center (700 21st Ave South, Minneapolis).

Here is the schedule of the day:
1:00 – 1:30 p.m. Pre-gathering with Harp by Laurie Leigh
1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Celebration of Life
2:30 – 3:00 p.m. Harp with Laurie Leigh
2:30 – 4:00 p.m. Social Time – Snacks and sweets will be served.

Parking is available in Lot G (610 21st Ave South) and in Lot H (directly across from Lot G on 21st Ave South).

Have you ever seen a contrabass flute? It’s like a human-sized paperclip bent into the shape of the number four. Ever heard eleven flutes playing all at the same time? It’s like taking in the full spectrum of visible light, but through your ears.

If your answer to these questions is no, here’s your chance to change that!

The Augsburg music department gleefully invites you to enjoy a performance of music for woodwind instruments. The program will feature the Augsburg University Flute Ensemble and solo performances by students of Joan Hutton and Julie Johnson playing pieces by Claude Bolling, Francis Poulenc, Otar Taktakishvili, Lucien Niverd, Jennifer Higdon, Paul Creston, and more. Maybe you’ve never heard of these composers—that’s okay, you should come anyway!
