Timely Warning: Aggravated Assault and Robbery

In compliance with the “Timely Warning” provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Campus Security Act, Augsburg University Department of Public Safety is giving notice of a situation that represents a serious or continuing threat to students and employees of the University. This timely warning aims to provide information to aid the Augsburg community in protecting themselves after a report of a serious crime.

Reported Offense: Aggravated Assault and Robbery

On October 27, 2025, at approximately 9:25 p.m., DPS encountered an individual who was attempting to gain access into Lindell Library and Oren Gateway Center. When a DPS officer approached the individual, the individual pulled what appeared to be a knife and assaulted the officer. The officer was able to remove themselves from the individual and contact the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD). While MPD officers asked the individual to leave campus, he refused to comply, and he struck a DPS vehicle in which two DPS officers were sitting with his fist. The individual then approached a guest on University property to ask for a phone, and when it was provided, the individual ran off with the phone south on 20th Ave S across the bridge over Interstate 94.

Status

DPS and the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) are currently investigating this incident. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to contact MPD or Augsburg DPS at 612-330-1717.

Capitol Pathways Program – Paid Internships at the State Capitol – Applications Due November 6

Capitol Pathways is a paid spring internship program for college students. With the long-term goal of making Minnesota state government and policymaking more representative of our diverse communities, this program provides students leadership, legislative and career readiness training alongside an immersive internship experience with an organization working in policy during the legislative session. This is a spring internship from January – May, 2025.

Invitation to Participate in Research: Tinder Use and Mental Health Outcomes

My name is Evan Bloyer, and I am a graduate student in the Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology program here at Augsburg University. My clinical research project is understanding how Tinder use impacts mental health outcomes, particularly self-esteem and body esteem. I have received Augsburg University’s IRB approval and am able to collect data from eligible participants. To participate, please click on the link below. Benefits Will Not Be Deducted on the October 31 Pay Date

Voluntary deductions for benefits premiums are taken on the first two pay dates of a month. There will be no deductions for benefit premiums on the third pay date of a month.

This Friday, 10/31/2025, there will be no deductions for Insurance premiums, spending/ savings accounts, parking and bus deductions

Mark Your Calendar – Open Enrollment Begins November 3

Open Enrollment, the annual period when benefits-eligible employees make their benefit choices for the coming year, begins Monday, November 3, and continues through Sunday, November 16. This is the only time of year when you may elect or change your benefits, unless you experience a qualifying life event.

Open Enrollment is passive this year – if you do not submit updated information, change, or waive your coverage, you will have the same coverage as 2025. However, if there are no elections to your Flexible Spending Accounts (healthcare, limited purpose, or dependent care) or Health Savings Account, your elections will be zero for the 2026 benefit year.
No Action:
– Benefits plans stay the same
– FSA & Dependent Care deductions: $0 (locked in for 2026)
– HSA deductions: $0 (can change at any time)

Seeking Muslim Research Study Participants

As-salamualaikum! My name is Sana Khan and I am currently a clinical psychology doctoral study student at Augsburg University. I am conducting a research study about how the mental health and religiosity of Muslim college students is impacted by Islamophobia and I would love to have you be a part of my study! The study will consist of an initial screener to make sure eligibility criteria is met and then scheduling an interview in which I ask you questions about your demographics and experience as a Muslim college student as related to Islam, religiosity, and Islamophobia. The interview should take approximately 45 minutes to an hour to complete. To thank you for your participation, upon completion of your interview, there will be an option at the end for you to enter your information to receive a $10 Visa gift card. Documentary on Policing in Minneapolis With the Filmmakers, Including Augsburg Professor Michael Lansing

Please join us for an evening showing of the brand new Twin Cities Public Television documentary Paradox: Echoes of Reform & the Minneapolis Police (https://www.tpt.org/paradox-echoes-reform-minneapolis-police/), hosted by Augsburg’s own Michael Lansing and featuring Daniel Bergin, filmmaker, Twin Cities Public Television executive producer, and historian. The film–a compelling blend of deep research, candid interviews, and rare archival footage–explores the history of police reform in Minneapolis.  It illustrates how mayoral politics, community activism, and police union pushback shaped the city’s trajectory as well as what is at stake for the future of public safety.

Selections from the documentary shown, with Bergin and Lansing available for conversation during and after the showing. Teachers might consider using this as an assignment for their classes!

The documentary will be shown in Hagfors Center 150A at 5:30pm on November 5th.

This event is hosted by the Augsburg Center for Teaching and Learning, Sabo Center for Democracy and Citizenship, Office of Faculty Development, and the History Department.

Augsburg Will Celebrate First Generation College Celebration Week – November 3–8

Augsburg will celebrate first–generation students, faculty and staff the week of November 3-8. First-Generation College Celebration Day is celebrated annually on Nov. 8 to commemorate the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Federal TRIO/ programs were created as part of the HEA to promote postsecondary access, retention and completion. The term “first-generation college student” was introduced by the TRIO community in the late 1970’s. A first-generation college student is typically defined as a student whose parents or guardians never earned a four-year bachelor’s degree. The Council for Opportunity in Education (COE), in partnership with NASPA, initiated the national first-generation college celebration.

Augsburg’s celebration will include a series of events from Nov.3-8. All in the Augsburg community are invited to celebrate. During the kick-off in the Christensen Center on Monday, we will have placards and buttons for folks who identify as first-generation and for those who support first-generation students. We also encourage staff and faculty to fill out the First-Generation Augsburg Community Survey: https://forms.gle/zzTmXfK4QQoFDmoE6.

Students will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for Sony Wireless Premium Noise Canceling Headphones. Students will receive one entry for each event they attend, and can enter the drawing by scanning a QR code at the event.

Día de los Muertos Program on Friday, October 31

The Augsburg community is invited to be present for a student-led community program in commemoration of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The program will take place on Friday, October 31, at 12pm in the Hoversten Chapel. Light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome as we take a moment to honor the departed.
