Muslim Students: Click Here to Share About Your Experiences with Islamophobia

As-salamualaikum! My name is Sana Khan and I am currently a clinical psychology doctoral study student at Augsburg University. I am conducting a research study about how the mental health and religiosity of Muslim college students is impacted by Islamophobia and I would love to have you be a part of my study! The study will consist of an initial screener to make sure eligibility criteria is met and then scheduling an interview in which I ask you questions about your demographics and experience as a Muslim college student as related to Islam, religiosity, and Islamophobia. The interview should take approximately 25 minutes to 35 minutes to complete. To thank you for your participation, upon completion of your interview, there will be an option at the end for you to enter your information to receive a $10 Visa gift card. The SEED Coalition issues annual awards for community and civic engaged students, educators, and community partners. The Sabo Center is soliciting nominations for the following awards:

Student Civic Leadership Award (student): Recognizes a student or group who model civic responsibility and leadership through initiative, collaboration, and community building, integrating civic engagement into their college experience.

Civic Educator Award (staff or faculty): Recognizes a faculty or staff member who models civic responsibility by supporting students’ civic development and strengthening a culture of engagement on campus through their teaching, mentorship, or leadership.

Community Partner Award (community partner): Recognizes a community-based partner or organization that enriches both educational and community outcomes through sustained, reciprocal partnerships with a college or university.

Community Collaboration Award (student, staff, faculty, department, or community partner): Recognizes a project or initiative co-created by campus and community partners that showcases meaningful collaboration and exemplifies the campus’s civic and community engagement, contributing to both student learning and community well-being.

Individuals can self-nominate or be nominated by another person.

Invitation to Participate in Research: Tinder Use and Mental Health Outcomes

My name is Evan Bloyer, and I am a graduate student in the Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology program here at Augsburg University. My clinical research project is understanding how Tinder use impacts mental health outcomes, particularly self-esteem and body esteem. The Study Abroad Office invites you to attend our Short-Term Study Abroad Showcase, where you can learn all about Summer 2026 short-term study abroad programs before applications are due. Short-term programs are a great option if you want to study abroad without committing to a full semester, earn academic credit while traveling, and fit an international experience into a busy schedule.

The event will take place in the Christensen Center Lobby on Wednesday, January 28, from 12:00–2:00 PM. Stop by anytime during the event to explore program options, ask questions, and get guidance on the application process. Also feel free to try different international candy! STEM Alumni Gathering on February 12

All current STEM students are invited to attend the 3rd Annual STEM Alumni Gathering which will take place on Thursday, February 12th from 5-7pm in Hagfors 150.

STEM alumni will be back on campus to share their stories of life after Augsburg. The evening will include time for an alumni panel, discipline specific table conversations, and unstructured mingling. All current STEM students are invited to come bring their questions and learn from the experiences of our alumni guests.

Daily Chapel: “Living Stories” – Rev. Darrell Gillespie

Please join us in Hoversten Chapel at 12:00 pm for the first installment of the spring “Living Stories” chapel series. Rev. Darrell Gillespie, Head of Family Ministry at Hope Academy in Minneapolis will share from his Pentecostal tradition. “Living Stories” offers stories of commitment from across traditions and is co-sponsored by the Department of Religion and Philosophy, the Augsburg Interfaith Institute, and Campus Ministry. This semester we will also hear from Dr. Danielle Clausnitzer, Assistant Director of Wisdom Ways Center for Spirituality in Minneapolis (Atheism), and Nanette Missaghi, Retired Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director (Baha’i).

A day at the state fair changes everything.
But are we certain we know what we know?

Lewis Palmer, radio-wave surfer and UFO enthusiast, works hard on his family’s sunflower farm, and has no plans to ever leave it. Joan Palmer, his younger sibling, wants to escape their rural South Dakota town at any cost, desperate to come out as queer and live free of the expectations of a suffocatingly close-knit community. On the one-year anniversary of their parents’ mysterious and untimely death, tensions rise to a snapping point as they deal with nosey neighbors, preparations for the state fair, and radio interference.

STATIC, a tragicomedy written by students Lucía Salazar-Davidson and Kyle Hayes, explores what we do in irredeemably harmful situations. Can we stay? Should we escape? What happens to the ones we leave behind? Through various misadventures, devastating miscommunications, a dash of music, and a sprinkle of sci-fi flair, this play aims to explore these questions.

Farewell Stewart Van Cleve Open House Scheduled Today from 2–3:15 p.m.

After many years wrangling Augsburg’s archives and more recently, serving as Library Director, Stewart Van Cleve is moving on to a position with the state. Stewart’s last day at Augsburg will be Friday, January 30th.

To celebrate Stewart’s next chapter, please join him for a slice of pie and a mug of hot chocolate TODAY (Wednesday, January 28) from 2:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. in the Lindell Library in the Clubhouse located on the first floor. Stories of Stewart’s Augsburg Adventures are most welcome during this open house celebration.

Disabled Student Looking for a Student PCA

Hi, my name is Zander. I am a Senior, and I am disabled and in a wheelchair. I am looking for a backup PCA to help out when my regular PCA can’t. You do not need to be trained to be a PCA, as I will provide all of the training you will need, as it is not that technical of a job. My PCA comes to my dorm every day to help me with certain tasks that I cannot complete in a timely manner.. You would come when my main PCA needs a day off or can’t make it that day for different reasons, and help me with the tasks that they would usually help me with on that day. Some of the tasks you would do daily are refilling water bottles, refilling humidifiers, and making a bed. Expect this to take 15 or 30 minutes out of your day. Then, on top of that, I also require assistance with bathing once a week. Expect that to take an hour once a week. This job comes with very flexible hours. I will tell you what day I would need you, and you would pick a time on that day that you would come. There is no set required time that you have to come each day. The rate for this job will be $13 an hour; however, you are usually not there longer than an hour, so it usually turns out to $13 per day.
