Students: Apply to Be a 2026-27 Christensen Scholar

We are now taking applications for the 2026-2027 cohort of Christensen Scholars. Apply at the link below by Friday March 27, 2026.

Christensen Scholars spend a year in community exploring questions of faith, identity, and vocation through a Christian theological lens. Students should be open to engaging seriously and openly with these topics, but it is not a requirement that a student be an active member of a faith community. Applicants need only be open to sharing about and listening to a diverse set of perspectives within the Christian tradition.

BENEFITS:
• Develop a deeper understanding of your own vocation in a caring community.
• Create a deeper sense of belonging among your peers.
• Learn new ways to live out your faith on a daily basis within the community.
• Experience a remote mountain retreat center in the middle of winter.
• Receive a small scholarship and a $500.00 stipend to cover expenses.
• All-expenses-paid winter pilgrimage in mid-January.
• 4 upper division Religion credits (can be used toward your major or minor)

NOTE: RLN 100 is a prerequisite for this year-long course. We will gather every other Thursday evening (6pm-8pm), both Fall and Spring semesters. Additionally, the pilgrimage during the end of your winter break in January 2027 is mandatory. Students admitted are expected to have good attendance and participation in the sessions and on the trip in order to earn course credit.

Christensen Scholars program is co-led by Dr. Jeremy Myers (myers@ausburg.edu) from the Christensen Center for Vocation and Rev. John Schwehn (schwehn@augsburg.edu) from Campus Ministry.

Political Science and History Majors: Spend a Semester Abroad Studying the Northern Ireland Conflict

Augsburg Political Science and History majors can spend the fall semester in Northern Ireland while earning major, minor, and elective credit toward their degree. Coursework completed on the program transfers back as Augsburg credit, including:

– Political Science credit (upper-division)
– History credit (upper-division)
– Social Science or Humanities electives
– Augsburg Experience (study abroad requirement)

This makes it possible to stay on track for graduation while completing core and elective requirements in an international setting!

As-salamualaikum! My name is Sana Khan and I am currently a clinical psychology doctoral study student at Augsburg University. I am conducting a research study about how the mental health and religiosity of Muslim college students is impacted by Islamophobia and I would love to have you be a part of my study! The study will consist of an initial screener to make sure eligibility criteria is met and then scheduling an interview in which I ask you questions about your demographics and experience as a Muslim college student as related to Islam, religiosity, and Islamophobia. The interview should take approximately 25 minutes to 35 minutes to complete. TRIO/SSS Summer Bridge Peer Mentor Positions (3), Summer 2026

There will be 4 days of training (2 days in May & 2 Days in June) and the commitment is 4 weeks June 21 – July 16.
$16.45 per hour

Job Description
As a result of serving as a TRIO/Student Support Services Summer Bridge Peer Mentor,
students will be able to:
● Create & maintain a safe, healthy, & welcoming residential community by
coordinating move-in & move-out, creating & posting door & hall decorations,
enforcing program & University policies & regulations.
● Provide academic support through evening study group activities, course research,
learning assistance, constructive feedback, & guidance.
● Plan & facilitate study-break activities that actively engage participants.
● Foster a positive group environment for first-year students through respectful
communication, a positive attitude, confidence-building, & providing assistance as
needed.
● Collaborate and work effectively as part of a team to support a successful Summer
Bridge experience.

Qualifications
● Minimum GPA of 2.5
● Strong customer service skills
● Effective communication & team-development abilities
● Ability to maintain private & sensitive information
● Ability to work in a fast-paced & unpredictable environment
● Desire to work in a flexible, team-focused atmosphere
● Strong sense of responsibility—and fun!
● Willingness to live in a residence hall during the Summer Bridge program
(June 21–July16; room provided)
● Willingness to complete other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications
● Completion of Summer Bridge Program
● Previous residence life experience
● Current TRIO/SSS participant
● Involvement and/or leadership in Augsburg co-curricular activities

Kathy McGillivray Shares Her Story of Thriving on Thursday

Kathy McGillivray, director of CLASS, Augsburg’s Disability resources office for the past 11 years, earned her B.S. in Pastoral Studies at North central University and her Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the University of St. Thomas. Blind since birth, Kathy has learned that whatever we are looking for in life, we often just need to feel around until we find it.

Action Alert: Legislators Need to Hear From You About the State Grant Program

Did you know that the Minnesota State Grant program supports 62% of Augsburg undergraduate students, with an average grant amount of $6,000?

A $131 million shortfall in funding for the program means that without action, many low- and middle-income students will lose their grants or see them dramatically cut starting next fall.

Lawmakers can prevent these cuts by providing additional funding for the State Grant program during the legislative session that is underway in St. Paul. Augsburg is encouraging policymakers to do just that, speaking up on this with other private nonprofit colleges. It is also critical for individual constituents—including Augsburg students, faculty, and staff—to ask for action on this issue.

If you live in Minnesota, please consider sending a note of your own to the state legislators who represent you, asking them to fully fund the State Grant program. A sample note you can edit and a simple tool for sending it is available from the Minnesota Private College Council.

Jen is an interfaith leader working at the intersection of investing in the leadership of young people and the vitality of the natural environment. Jen will speak on the theme Healing the Earth, Healing Ourselves.

We’ll announce the winners of the Outstanding Staff and Newcomer awards, the winner of the Outstanding Team/Department award, and give away prizes to attendees.

Staff Appreciation Awards Ceremony (Calendar Event)

Community Defense Training

As a united University community, we continue to seek ways to offer resources that support faculty and staff, both on and off campus. The need to pay attention to what is happening around us remains.

For those who are interested in community defense training, the following options are available:
• States at the Core, who offer multiple online training sessions each month to a nationwide audience.
• Monarca, a local Minnesota organization that offers several in-person training sessions throughout the greater Twin Cities and western WI.

For those who are interested in attending training in community, Human Resources, the Provost’s Office, and the Post 1/20 Task Force have reserved space on campus, and will be streaming a 90-minute live webinar presented by States at the Core on the following dates:

Wednesday, March 25 (OGC/Oren 201) – Tomorrow!
Wednesday, April 1 (OGC/Oren 201)

The webinars are identical; is not necessary to attend all of them.
• The webinar will begin at 6:00 p.m.
• Augsburg will register as an institution, no individual registration is required.
• As this is a nationwide webinar, the audience is not visible.
• Those who are interested in attending the training off-campus should individually register.

As additional training and resources become available for faculty and staff, we will continue to provide those opportunities to all.

Hello QIPOC Family! We are counting down to our Elections and Queer Prom this week! We will hold elections in person on Wednesday, March 25th, in the East Commons from 4-6:30pm. All present members will participate in voting and determining the board for the 2026-2027 year.

We are also hosting our annual Queer Prom THIS Friday (March 27th). It will be from 7-10pm in the East Commons. Please invite your friends, as there will be some amazing drag performers and DJs. The theme is Retrofuturism!
