AugSem Student Leaders (ASLs) are responsible for assisting in the successful implementation of AugSem, a seminar for first-year students at Augsburg University. ASLs will work together and with their paired faculty members to create a welcoming and inclusive environment to ensure students in their respective classes have a quality experience in their AugSem and connect to resources needed to succeed in their first semester at Augsburg. ASLs lead the Community Time sessions and organize some out of class opportunities/events/meetings for students.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of being an AugSem Student Leader, students will:
-Develop empathic communication and skills as they listen to, engage with, and support first-year students.
-Support first-year students’ development of skills related to communication, organization, time management, and studying.
-Enhance their ability to advocate for others.
-Improve skills connected to moderating and facilitating group engagement and activities.
-Further expand their intercultural competency skills.
-Develop collaborative skills as they work closely with their AugSem course professor.
-Learn to manage responsibilities associated with a leadership position.
Job Requirements:
-Minimum GPA of 2.0
-Require work study eligibility
-Be available to take LST294/296 in spring semester (for new ASLs only)
-Strong organizational, administrative, and leadership skills
-Strong commitment to student support
-Ability to effectively communicate, delegate, and work to develop a team
-Desire to work in a flexible, team-focused atmosphere
-Willing to complete other duties as assigned
