Romantic Relationships Study

submitted by chavez@augsburg.edu

Hello!
My name is Anabel Chavez, and I’m a Psychology major and McNair Scholar at Augsburg College. I am conducting research this semester as a part of my Psychology Honors project and I would like to invite you to participate in my study!

WHAT?
This study looks at how relationship memories may relate to relationship satisfaction. Therefore, the study asks for participants to disclose two personal relationship-defining memories.

WHO can participate?
Participants are required to be at least 18 years of age and are currently involved in a romantic (but not marital) relationship. Participants will also need to have been in their current romantic relationship for at least 6 months (or longer). Participants who have participated in my summer research experiment, cannot participate again.

The study will require participants to come to the Augsburg College campus to take a survey (20-30 minutes). Participants will then have the choice to either receive 1 credit for their research participation requirement in PSY105/PSY215 or receive a $10 cash compensation for their time and effort.

For any further questions, concerns, or to schedule an appointment please send me an email at chavez@augsburg.edu.

Thank You!

New in 2017: Nominate Adjunct Faculty for CTL Teaching Award

submitted by kilgorem@augsburg.edu

Students, faculty, and staff – you are invited to make nominations for the 2017 Distinguished Contributions to Teaching and Learning awards from CTL. All faculty or full-time staff who have been employed at the college for at least three years are eligible for the awards. You submit a nomination in one three areas:

Teaching
Outstanding teaching encompasses many forms, pedagogies and is not restricted to the classroom. As such, nominations made in this category should demonstrate the nominee’s active engagement with students, creative approaches to instruction, ability to challenge students, and their overall passion for teaching. Up to two awards may be given in this category, one for FULL-TIME faculty and one for ADJUNCT faculty (2 courses per term or less).

Service
Nominations for this award should demonstrate the nominee’s impact on the college, community, or their discipline in a substantial and meaningful way. Nominees that impact the lives of students through supportive, thoughtful, and comprehensive mentoring and advising that go beyond the normal expectations of guiding students are eligible for this award.

Scholarship
Nominees in this category may be recognized for a consistent record of scholarship or a single project. In recognizing multiple forms of intellectual inquiry, nominations should speak directly to both the quality of scholarship as well as its contribution to their discipline, the college, or community.

Nominations deadline: February 20, 2017

Submit your nomination using the online form on the CTL awards webpage.

Film Screening – Disturbing the Peace

submitted by hermansb@augsburg.edu

When: Wed. Feb. 8th 7-9pm
Where: Sateren Auditorium, Augsburg College
2211 Riverside Avenue
Minneapolis, MN 55454

Disturbing the Peace follows former enemy combatants–Israeli soldiers from elite units and Palestinian fighters, many of whom served years in prison–who have joined together to challenge the status quo and say “enough.” The film reveals their transformational journeys from soldiers to nonviolent peace activists leading to the creation of Combatants for Peace. They stand in a long line of individuals – from Gandhi to MLK Jr., to Rosa Parks–willing to “disturb the peace,” in an effort to move us all toward a more just and peaceful world.

Co-sponsored by: University of Minnesota Department of Theatre Arts & Dance and Institute for Advanced Study, Augsburg College – Nobel Peace Prize Forum, and East Side Freedom Library

This Minneapolis premiere will be followed by discussion with members of Combatants for Peace. Moderated by UMN Theater Professor Sonja Kuftinec.
