Celebrating Koryne Horbal, Dedicated Supporter of Augsburg and Women’s Rights Advocate

submitted by pribbeno@augsburg.edu

As many of you may have seen in the newspapers, one of Augsburg’s staunch supporters and a tireless advocate for the rights of women passed away this past Monday.

Koryne Horbal, a remarkable citizen and public servant who inspired all of us through her commitment to a vibrant democracy and passion for women’s rights worldwide, was a great gift to Augsburg and to our students.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Koryne at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 29 in Hoversten Chapel. Please join with Koryne’s many friends and family and Auggies to celebrate her life.

The Star Tribune wrote a detailed obituary about our dear friend, available at http://www.startribune.com/obituary-koryne-horbal-championed-women-s-rights-worldwide/423734353/

In 2008, Augsburg awarded Koryne an honorary degree in recognition of her work to found the Democratic Party Feminist Caucus, her service to the United Nations as an appointee by former President Jimmy Carter, her support of Augsburg’s Anne Pederson Women’s Resource Center, and for her other advocacy and fundraising work.

Please hold Koryne, and those close to her, in your thoughts and prayers.
