The study I am conducting focuses on the impact of sexual assault disclosure on the friends of sexual assault survivors among college students.

You are being invited to participate in this study because of your enrollment as an undergraduate student at Augsburg University. If you elect to participate in this study, you will be asked to respond to a 15-20 minute confidential & anonymous questionnaire about attitudes & experiences surrounding sexual assault. Your participation in this study will yield either course credit for PSY105 & PSY215 or $5 compensation.

This survey deals with sensitive topics, such as sexual assault & violence. If you choose to participate in this study, you have the right to withdraw or skip any questions at any time without affecting affect your current or future relations with Augsburg University or the researcher. The indirect benefits are that the results of this study may allow for a better understanding of the effects of sexual assault. A direct benefit is that you will receive course credit or compensation for completing this survey.

The results of this study will be disseminated in a final paper & presented to the faculty in the Psychology department at Augsburg University. The results also may be published in a professional journal or presented at local, regional, national, or international conferences via a poster or oral presentation. In any publication or conference presentation, I will not include any information that will make it possible to identify participants. All data will be stored on a password-protected computer and only my advisor & I will have access to it.

Professor Green published in the Chronicle of Higher Ed

submitted by starckl@augsburg.edu

Professor Doug Green’s letter to the editor was published this week in the Chronicle of Higher Education. His piece, “Academe is Not Anti-Science,” is a measured and insightful response to Steven Pinker’s “The Intellectual War on Science.” At the end of his letter, Professor Green invokes Augsburg’s commitment to the union of science and humanism:

“But if we need a sense of where we are now, at least in the academy, we would do better — on the Augsburg University campus at least — to walk the skyway from Lindell Library to the new Hagfors Center for Science, Religion, and Business: The CSBR and that bridge signify a unified resistance to the war on science and, more broadly, on the pursuit of knowledge.”

Day at the Capitol

submitted by hollandk@augsburg.edu

Hi Auggies,

SIGN UP NOW FOR AUGSBURG’S DAY AT THE CAPITOL

WEDNEDAY, FEBRUARY 28TH

9:30 AM- 1:30PM

*lunch and transportation free*

Augsburg has an annual Day at the Capitol, which is a chance to meet with legislators, tour the newly renovated Capitol, and learn how to advocate for important causes! Augsburg students greatly benefit from the Minnesota State Grant, which is need-based financial aid that Minnesota students receive through their FAFSA. Over 1,000 students receive a State Grant, which is over 1/3 of students at Augsburg.

Legislators love meeting college students in person—like Senator Kari Dziedzic who will be speaking to your group at the Capitol—because they want to hear YOUR story, your journey to college, and want to keep helping all Auggies and MN college students. Your voice MATTERS.

Sign up here: https://www.mnprivatecolleges.org/day-capitol-registration and to get a better idea of what the day looks like, check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_pKTOaMLFg

Any questions, reach out to Kitana Holland (hollandk@augsburg.edu) or Lee George (lgeorge@augsburg.edu)
