Fellowship Fridays Starts TOMORROW

submitted by maherk@augsburg.edu

CTL is joining Bridget Robinson-Riegler, Psychology Professor and member of Faculty Senate, to bring you Fellowship Fridays support sessions. Beginning Friday, June 19, all faculty members and teaching staff are invited to gather and share their experiences with teaching, learning, and advising in this strange new world. – we’ll trade ideas, advice, highs, lows, successes, and failures – or maybe we’ll just plain old vent. Most importantly, we will attempt to inoculate ourselves against one of the more insidious side effects of this pandemic – isolation. So grab a cup of coffee or tea, or pour a glass of wine, and Zoom in to support your fellow instructors and work through this challenging time together.

*If Friday afternoons don’t work with your schedule, but you would still like to participate, reach out to Bridget or Jennifer Bankers-Fulbright, and they will contemplate adding other days/times in the future.

“Tech Tune-ups and Tips” Starts Tuesday

submitted by maherk@augsburg.edu

Tech Tune-ups & Tips every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 am. Come Zoom with the E-learning Team as they offer two 60-minute sessions each week on how to maximize your use of Moodle and learning technologies as you get ready for classes this Fall. Each session will open with 15-minutes of “pertinent tips & best practices” about important Moodle features/resources. The final 45 minutes will provide training on a specific learning experience or tool.

Tuesday, 6/23 at 10–Templates & New Modalities: With all of the changes currently in the works, now might be a good time to think about reworking your Moodle courses to take advantage of some of the new design features available. The first 15-20 minutes will introduce you to some new Moodle template options including a Grid format. The rest of the hour will offer a deeper dive into the new Live and Online Modalities and provide time for Q&A.

Thursday, 6/25 at 10—Instructor/Student Support & New Integrated VoiceThread: The new modalities mean students (and instructors) will need a lot of technical support. The first 15 minutes will review resources that assist instructors, as well as those created specifically for students. The rest of the hour will introduce the new VoiceThread LTI integration in Moodle that allows instructors to assess student completion and comprehension of VoiceThread recordings.

Virtual Volunteer Opportunities with Catchafire

submitted by grayk2@augsburg.edu

Did you know volunteering can help advance your career? Volunteering can help you gain experience in your area of interest and meet people in the field. In addition, volunteering gives you the opportunity to practice the skills employers value most in their new college hires. NACE’s Job Outlook survey reports that critical thinking/problem solving, teamwork/collaboration, professionalism/work ethic, and oral/written communications are all essential competencies.
Consider volunteering virtually with Catchafire. Catchafire strengthens the social good sector by matching professionals who want to donate their time with nonprofits who need their skills.
If you need help identifying additional volunteer opportunities this summer, the Strommen Career & Internship Center is here to help! We recommend scheduling an appointment with a career coach in Handshake to talk through your options.
