2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the ratification of the 26th Amendment, lowering the voting age from 21 to 18 years old and outlawing age discrimination in access to the ballot. Its ratification ushered in the country’s last seismic expansion to the franchise, yet barriers to the youth vote persist 50 years later.
