Final Days: Faculty Distinguished Contributions Award Nominations

Celebrate the achievements and contributions of your colleagues and professors. Nominations for the 2025 Faculty Distinguished Contribution Awards are open now through March 10.

There are 7 award categories: Scholarship, Service to the University, Service to the Community, Innovations in Teaching, Teaching: Adjunct or Part-time, Teaching: Full-time 5+ years, and Teaching: Full-time 5 years or less. Any members of the Augsburg community can serve as nominators.

Please save the dates of May 14 & 15 for Augsburg’s Days in May professional development conference. This year’s program will begin with the Dr. Jennie Diaz Memorial Lecture, featuring renowned Education scholar and theorist, Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings.

All faculty and staff are invited to share your expertise with our community by proposing a workshop session by April 11.

Sverdrup Guest Lecture: “Leveraging EEG-Based Brain Measures to Identify Substance Abuse Risk”

Space is limited so please RSVP soon (https://tinyurl.com/EEG-Talk) to join the Psychology Department on Monday, 3/10 (10:30-11:30) for a talk by University of Minnesota Research Professor, Dr. Stephen Malone.

Over the course of 25 years, Dr. Malone has been an integral part of a unique program of research at the Minnesota Center for Twin and Family Research aimed at better understanding substance use and abuse, its correlates, causes and consequences.

Dr. Malone, working with colleagues and students, has used EEG-related measures to uncover stable and predictive biomarkers of risk. In this talk, he will share some insights and discoveries from this work, offering a view of how brain activity can help us understand and predict substance use behaviors and substance-related problems. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from an expert in the field!

New FAFSA Deadline

The 2025-2026 FAFSA is available to complete online at http://www.studentaid.gov. If you have not yet completed your FAFSA for the upcoming academic year, please complete this as soon as possible to ensure funding availability.

The deadline to receive the MN State Grant is July 31st, 2025. Your FAFSA must be fully submitted by this date.

Student Financial Services is available to assist you with FAFSA completion appointments.

Faculty/Staff: Please help us in reminding students to complete their FAFSA ASAP!

Augsburg Staff Union Nominations Needed

We are still seeking nominations for Stewards, UCC (University Council) and Communications Team.

Please nominate yourself or a coworker who you think would be great for the role(s). The nominated person will have 2 weeks to decide if they would like to be on ballot. (You do not have to accept the nomination.)

Stewards: We have 6 spots total.

How much of a time commitment? It depends on what we have going on. We meet once a month (more if needed and agreed on by the group) for an hour or less. (over zoom and the day depends on what the group decided is best for everyone).

You also meet with new hires to walk them through the contract, get them signed up for Union Membership and answer any questions they may have. We have new hires every 2 weeks and the group decides which week they do. It is not 1 or 2 people who do it all.

UCC: Meets once a month for 1 ½ hours. Send out minutes to the members from their notes.

Communications Team: Meets every Friday from 12:15 to 12:45. We get information as needed out to the members.

New Student Position: Student: Auggie Admissions Ambassador, Academic Year 2024-25

Auggie Admissions Ambassadors works to highlight Augsburg’s many strengths and to encourage prospective students to consider Augsburg University as their university of choice.

They work closely with prospective students and families on a daily basis and assist them as they navigate through their college search. This is done through providing quality customer service and hospitality.

Ambassadors are often the first and last face our visitors see, whether it is an in person or virtual visit, requiring them to have a positive and energetic attitude about their work. Ambassadors draw on their knowledge and experience to help visitors get to know Augsburg University.

Auggie Ambassadors are passionate about the university and use that passion to enthusiastically to represent the university and contribute to the success of the admissions team. Training will be provided.

Tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

– Working at the Admissions reception desk, answering phones and welcoming guests, and other administrative tasks
– Conducting campus tours with prospective students and their families
– Connecting not only in person, but may also include correspondence and mailings, phone calls, and virtual visits
– Assisting admissions staff with projects and tasks
– Work includes using a desktop computer, sitting, standing, and walking for periods of time
– Using Admissions’ social media accounts to interact with prospective students and families

Recognize an Amazing Staff Member for Staff Appreciation

Hello from the Staff Senate!This year Augsburg Staff Senate will host an in-person Staff Appreciation Event on Wednesday March 26th from 3:00-4:30 p.m. in the Hoversten Chapel, Foss Hall.We are now accepting nominations to honor outstanding staff and outstanding newcomers at Augsburg.

Nominations for the Outstanding Staff and Newcomer Awards are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 7, 2025. Nominations are welcomed from any current member of the campus community – staff, faculty, or students.

The Staff Appreciation Program is intended to recognize staff members who have made an important contribution to the campus community over the past year. Recipients of the Outstanding Staff Award provide exceptional service to others, work collaboratively across divisions or departments, demonstrate a clear commitment to equity and inclusion, and enhance the objectives of their department and the mission of Augsburg University through creativity, innovation, and hard work.The Newcomer Award recognizes a staff person who has made a significant impact on campus life in a short amount of time. Staff who have been at Augsburg for two years or less (as of March 1, 2025) are eligible to receive this award.Staff Senate will award five Outstanding Staff awards and one Newcomer award during the in-person event on March 26th.

Mid-Semester Events at the Library (Coffee, Crafts, and Puzzles)

You’re halfway through the semester! Come celebrate at the library with some fun midterm activities:

*Daily Puzzle Tables – We’ll have tables set up on the first floor of Lindell Library with puzzles for you to drop-in and work on until Spring Break.

*March 10th: Free Coffee & Tea – Starting at 9am stop by the Research Services Desk at the front of the library for a hot beverage and chat with one of our librarians about what we can do to help with your research.

*March 13th: Create a Study Buddy – Drop in anytime between 10am-12pm for some arts and crafts. We’ll have a wet felting station for making your own felt friend to keep you company as you prep for exams and papers. Takes 5-30 minutes.

*Daily Research Help – The Research Services desk has librarians ready to help with your research from 9am-6pm Monday-Friday. Visit us anytime!

TODAY: Greenhouse First Friday

The Augsburg Biology Department’s rooftop greenhouse grows an appreciation for and deeper understanding of the plants of our planet. The greenhouse is open to the Augsburg campus community on the first Friday of every month this semester, from noon to 3pm. The Augsburg community is invited to come see what we’ve got growing on, enjoy the tropical atmosphere and marvel at hundreds of plant species from all over the world.

The next First Friday of the semester is this week, March 7, 12pm—3pm. The greenhouse is located on the 4th floor of the Hagfors Center.
