Should You Switch? New GenEd Curriculum in Fall 2025

The resources below are designed to help current undergraduate students consider whether switching their catalog year to the new degree requirements is a good option for them. Switching to the new degree requirements is optional.

Get Paid to Teach, Research, or Study Abroad: Apply for a Fulbright

Fulbright gives you the opportunity to teach, research, or study abroad for an academic year. The process of applying is invaluable and winning the award is a life changing experience.
To be eligible and competitive you need to:
– Be a U.S. Citizen
– Hold a 3.0 or higher GPA for serving as an English Teaching Assistant
– Hold a 3.5 or higher to conduct research or attend graduate school
– Be an active member in the Augsburg community or your home community
– Have effective skills to serve as a cultural ambassador of the U.S. to your host country

If you are a junior or senior, you would start working this summer on your application for an early fall submission. If you are awarded the Fulbright you would most likely leave the following summer. We provide mentoring and feedback to help you in the application process.

Explore Christian Community and Vocation: Apply for Christensen Scholars

The Christensen Scholars Program is a small group of ten academically accomplished students who share an interest in the theological and practical exploration of Christian community and vocation. The experience promises to be intellectual, communal, theological, dialogical, challenging, and practical.
Benefits
– Develop a deeper understanding of your own vocation in a caring community.
– Create a deeper sense of belonging among your peers.
– Learn new ways to live out your faith on a daily basis within the community.
– All-expenses-paid pilgrimage to Holden Village Retreat Center in the Cascade mountains.
– 4 upper division Religion credits (can be used toward your major or minor)

New Student Position: Student: Groundskeeping Summer 2025

Timeframe: Summer of 2025, 20-40 hours per week

– Warmer season tasks will include lawn and landscaping maintenance, such as mowing, weed whipping, watering, planting, trimming, raking, leaf blowing, and debris removal
– Colder season tasks will include snow removal, application of salt and sand on sidewalks and entryways
– Duties performed with and without the use of equipment; training will be provided
– Trash pickup around campus
– Equipment maintenance
– Assist facilities and maintenance operators with other miscellaneous projects and tasks as assigned
– Training will be provided

Hello, my name is Ashley Wurster and I am currently a clinical psychology doctoral student at Augsburg University. I am conducting a research study about how episode patterns in schizophrenia may affect stigmatization levels among mental health practitioners and the general public in Minnesota, and I would like to include you in my research. The study will be completed exclusively online and consist of a survey about your demographics and your experiences with and attitudes on schizophrenia/severe mental illnesses. Legacy Celebration on April 4

Every year the Department of Student Initiatives hosts the Pan Asian Legacy Celebration, with traditions to celebrate graduating seniors, emerging leaders and alumni. This year it’s hosted in the chapel on April 4 from 7 to 8:30 pm.

Our theme, Threads of Legacy, represents the deep connections that bind us through our shared histories and traditions. Like the intricate threads of a spiderweb, our legacies are woven together—linking generations, student organizations, and leaders who continue to shape and uplift our community. This banquet is a celebration of our collective excellence, the traditions we carry forward, and the lasting impact we create together.

Elisa V – CGEE Central America – Forced Exile

Elisa V, CGEE’s Regional Co-director, needs our community’s support. Here is a note from her:

Hello, my name is Elisa.

Like many of my fellow citizens, I am now facing forced exile due to a dictatorship that denies its own citizens their rights.

I come from a working class background, and through hard work and perseverance, I was able to build a home of my own, an achievement that is often out of reach for people like me.

I am an educator, and my work has been about amplifying voices against injustice, building bridges between cultures, and guiding students in their learning. Creating inclusive spaces where diversity is valued and respected has been one of my greatest accomplishments. In my own small way, I have tried to contribute to a more just and compassionate world.

I am also a mother, a wife, and a rescuer of stray dogs. Now, I face the heartbreaking reality of leaving behind everything I worked so hard to build in my home country.

Many friends have reached out, asking how they can support me as I relocate my family—including my eight rescue dogs—to safety. In response, I have created this GoFundMe to help us start over in a new country, Costa Rica.

From the depths of my heart, I am grateful for every word of encouragement, every act of kindness, and every bit of support. Thank you for standing with me in this difficult time.
