AI-Informed Assignment Pilot: Quick-Start Workshop for SoNS/HSS Faculty (December 8)

submitted by yoon@augsburg.edu

Who: SoNS and HSS faculty
What: AI-Informed Assignment Quick-start workshop (update one existing assignment)
When/where: Monday, December 8, 3:30–4:30 p.m., Marshall Room
Details and sign-up: http://go.augsburg.edu/aipilot
Stipend: for each completed assignment update (up to two per faculty member)

Description
Are you teaching in SoNS or HSS and wondering how to set a clear AI policy for one assignment without redesigning your whole course?

This year Augsburg is piloting an AI-Informed Assignment project in the School of Natural Sciences (SoNS) and Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS). The pilot focuses on one concrete task: updating a single existing assignment so that your AI policy is transparent, students can briefly provide evidence of any AI use (if allowed), and compliance with that policy is gradable – all without the use of AI-detectors.

At the Quick-start workshop, please bring one existing assignment that could benefit from a clearer AI policy. By the end of the hour, you should have a solid draft of an “AI-informed assignment update,” plus a plan to finalize it in January or to apply the approach to another assignment.

To learn more or indicate interest, visit the pilot page at http://go.augsburg.edu/aipilot. The site links to a brief Overview and Starter Kit, and to a single Intake & Submission Form you can use to sign up for the workshop, request a consult, or request an optional pre-paid BoodleBox seat (a faculty-only AI tool). Participation in this round is limited to SoNS and HSS faculty.

All Packages Order to Augsburg University

submitted by longj@augsburg.edu

Any package ordered to be delivered to the Augsburg campus should use this address:

Person’s Full Name
720 22nd Ave South
Minneapolis, MN 55454

This gives the delivery person the best chance of delivering to the Shipping/Receiving room.
Most flex/third party delivery drivers are using a map program to know where to deliver to. Using the other campus addresses are causing packages to be left in different areas around campus and often outside the buildings that are locked.

Courageous Voices: Immigrant Stories of Belonging and Strength

submitted by aljaffer@augsburg.edu

Please join us for Courageous Voices, an evening of storytelling and conversation that centers the gifts our immigrant and refugee communities bring to Minneapolis—language, culture, family networks, resilience, and hope at the Chapel of Augsburg. The program is led by Yacoub Aljaffery and presented in collaboration with the THRIVE program of education.

On this night, Areli will share her first-generation journey and the strength she draws from family, and Fadumo will reflect on moving from a refugee camp to a life of service and leadership. We’ll also hear from five high school students from Hiawatha Academies in a live panel—lifting up the assets they carry and the futures they are building.

This event is for everyone—students, staff, neighbors, and friends. Come to listen, learn, and celebrate the stories that shape our campus and our city.

When: Thursday, December 4, 5:00–6:30 p.m.
Where: The Chapel

Remembering Stan Neslon ’43

submitted by cjohnson@augsburg.edu

Augsburg athletics legend Stanford ‘Stan’ Nelson ’43 passed away on November 20, 2025, at the incredible age of 105.

After growing up in Dawson, MN, Stan immersed himself in the Augsburg community, earning 12 varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball, and golf. Augsburg connections ran deep in the Nelson family—Stan’s brother, Edor Nelson ’38, would become the Auggies’ longtime football and baseball coach. Stan was inducted into the Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame in 1977 and received the 2024 Legend of Augsburg Athletics Award.

After the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, Stan enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an officer (Lieutenant Junior Grade) during World War II, serving in the Normandy invasion and the Pacific theater. Following the war, he earned his master’s degree. He had an extensive career as a football coach at Anoka High School, leading the team to seven conference championships and the 1964 Minnesota state championship. He was named the MHSCA Coach of the Year in 1964 and was named to several Halls of Fame for his coaching accomplishments. He will be remembered as an Auggie whose dedication, leadership, and service made an enduring impact on his community.

There will be a visitation on Tuesday, December 2, from 9–11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka, with a service to follow at 11 a.m.
