Topics in Playwriting: Television
PWC 310-A or PWC 510-A
Summer 2025, Saturdays, June 7 through August 23, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
Instructor: Jessica Huang (https://www.jessica-huang.com/)
Do you have a great idea for a TV show, but you’re not sure how to get it on the page? Do you have a script in the drawer that’s begging to be finished, but something just isn’t quite right?
Throughout the year, Augsburg University and Playwrights’ Center, a Twin-Cities-based national organization supporting playwrights and new play development, partner to offer online, accredited playwriting and television-writing courses, taught by today’s leading writers in the field to students all over the country.
This three-hour weekly class is designed as an online workshop for students who are interested in learning the art and craft of writing for television. Students will study the fundamentals of professional writing for broadcast, cable, and digital platforms. They will explore the principles of television series creation by developing a compelling premise and executing a viable, character-driven pilot script.
Registration for this course is processed through the Schwartz School of the Arts. Please reach out to creativearts@augsburg.edu with your interest.

Our annual event, Rise & Remember Festival, exists to hold in remembrance George Floyd and those we have lost unjustly to the pervasive impacts of systemic racism. Activities focus on education, empowerment, healing, celebration, and our collective pursuit for racial justice and equity. Through Rise & Remember Festival, we will host a candlelight vigil, a Night of Honor, and the street festival that continues to highlight the role of community-rooted healing and art as activism. Our vision is that this experience inspires people to rise to the occasion to come together in community and build racial justice and equity.

At the Du Nord Cocktail Room, we believe in honoring the people who shape our communities—including the incredible teachers who show up every day with heart, hustle, and care.
This Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5–11), we invite you to celebrate the educator in your life—whether that’s a friend, partner, parent, or your favorite former teacher. Bring them in for a night of good food, great drinks, and well-earned appreciation.
At the Du Nord Cocktail Room, we appreciate teachers all year round—all teachers get 20% off their own bill, all the time, not just this week. It’s our small way of saying thank you for the big impact they make every day.

This minor update includes improved course organization with subsections, enhanced screen recording, and new student notifications. AI integration within the content editor is available but currently disabled as we further explore its functionality.
While Moodle’s overall look remains unchanged, we hope these new features enhance your teaching experience. For a detailed overview, please refer to What’s new in Moodle 2025-26? linked below!

As the semester wraps up we have an important ask: please fill out Campus Kitchen’s 2025 Impact Survey! The results from this survey help us to prioritize the ingredients and supplies you want to see in the Campus Cupboard and set shopping hours that work for the most people, as well as letting us know about cooking workshops you’d like to see, SNAP/WIC application support needs and nutrition and food needs on campus in general. This information also helps us to apply for funding to keep the cupboard stocked!
2 randomly selected students who fill out the survey will receive $20 cash each! Please complete the survey by May 16, and share it with 3 friends who have also shopped at the Campus Cupboard or come to our events!
The survey only takes a few minutes, and filling it out helps us meet your needs better each year. Fill it out today!

RLN 295: Robots, Androids, and Cyborgs. Science fiction literature and film is an ideal laboratory for philosophical questioning because it allows us to imagine worlds where what we take for granted may not hold. This course explores sci-fi stories about robots, androids, and cyborgs to help us think about what it means to be human. Topics include the shrinking distinction between agency and technology, whether artificial intelligence is really intelligent and, if so, how should we treat it, and the ways in which our growing dependence on information technology may be rewiring our brains.

As we near the end of another year please don’t forget to take care of your campus mailbox. This includes checking it for any mail, returning your lock and filing out the survey for what you would like us to do with your mail after this semester.
Two weeks after the spring semester ends (on May 23, 2025) we will close all student campus boxes unless they responded to the End of Year survey. If you would like your mail forwarded or would like to keep your mailbox open for the summer, please fill out this survey
(https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSen8Hb9X2VU3VbQWqr9sPleUUk0pJROmx7iM6sr-lfY4vjgMw/viewform?usp=sharing).
Before the fall semester starts we will reassign campus boxes to all residential students. Without completing the survey, it will most likely be a different number.
We are only able to forward 1st Class USPS mail. Packages must be looked at case by case. Some USPS will allow forwarding. (Reply to the Augsburg package email and we will look at that package.) Other packages (UPS, FedEx, Amazon, etc.), magazines, non-profit mail and standard mail will not be forwarded. We can also only forward to USA addresses. The forwarding period for the Augsburg Mailroom is two months from when the request is submitted. Afterward any additional mail we receive will be returned to sender.
We request that you contact the people/business sending you mail and update your address with them. Augsburg is classified as a business so you will not be able to do so through the US Post Office itself. Enrolling in online/electronic bills or statements can also be a smart option, it is environmentally friendly, secure and will often save you time (and sometimes money). Asking us to forward your mail does not change your mailing address with the USPS or Augsburg University, just with the Mailroom.

VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION FAQS:
Do I need to bring anything? No, all materials will be provided.
How do I sign up? Reserve a spot via Eventbrite above, and/or email Jared at volunteer@thecedar.org with your first and last name and which orientation you’d like to sign up for.
What if I reserve a spot but can’t make it? No worries – we host monthly orientation meetings. Scroll down to next month’s calendar to see if our next orientation works for you.
Can my underage child volunteer? Volunteers must be 18+ to serve alcohol and to cleanup, with respect to alcohol sales and curfew laws. However, if you’d like to volunteer with your child, signup for the orientation and we can accommodate.
If I sign up for the orientation, can I bring a friend? The more the merrier here at The Cedar. Feel free to bring anyone who might be interested in volunteering to our orientation.

It’s the end of the semester, and that means that not only is your mind feeling cluttered, your backpack is, too! Take care of both issues with JUNK JOURNALING at the library! Join us on Tuesday, May 6, from 1:00-3:30 PM as we de-stress by making bad art. Turn your random scraps of paper, junk mail, old assignments, class notes, candy wrappers, or whatever you have lying around into a commemorative journal (and give yourself a study break in the process). Check out Junk Journal Tiktok for inspiration! Bring your trash and we’ll provide the rest.

In case you’ve received an email lately about your Account being suspended, this is the most recent phishing attempt that Augsburg is experiencing. Phishing has been around for many years and still uses the same techniques described on our IT webpage. Given this most recent attempt, it’s a good reminder to look out for the following red flags in emails…
The message has a sense of urgency
The message includes links you are not expecting (don’t click on these)
The email is unexpected or comes from an address that doesn’t match the sender’s name
The message asks you for personal information, such as username, password, or Duo code.
Augsburg will not send you emails asking you to provide account information! If you receive phishing emails, mark them as Spam and/or delete them.
Do not ever share your password with anyone.
Do not ever share a Duo code with anyone.
For more information on combating phishing or for technical assistance, please reach out to the Service Desk or your LFC.

The Augsburg University IT Team is excited to announce a campus-wide transition from our existing landline telephone system to Zoom Phone over the next few months. Zoom Phone is a cloud-based phone service that can be used to make, receive, and manage calls from multiple devices, using your existing campus phone number. This change will provide you some additional features like text messaging and the ability to answer your phone from off-campus, along with saving Augsburg money. To learn more about this project and what it means for you, visit https://go.augsburg.edu/zoomphone
