The Creating an Inclusive Campus (CIC) Workshop is Wed., May 15, 1-4 pm. The topic is:
Managing the Moments
Arguably the best learning takes place when all students feel able to bring their full selves forward and engage in an environment that considers the historical context and current cultural climate; with the humility and promise to learn with others. This workshop will engage us in recognizing and responding to dynamic moments born out of human differences while honoring our commitments to intentional diversity. Participants will have the opportunity to examine and respond to scenarios in small groups.
Developed and sponsored by the Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Committee. Facilitated by Joanne Reeck, Chief Inclusion Officer, with faculty and staff providing information and experiences.
The CIC is one of several sessions and workshops offered May 14-16. For a full schedule, as well as descriptions of all of the sessions, check out:

The community garden still needs a little help getting ready for the season – we have about 15 in-ground beds that need their soil loosened up and fed with good nutrients so that our gardeners can begin planting. Come help us dig for a few minutes or a few hours! You don’t need to know what you’re doing… just be willing to dig. Wear sturdy shoes and clothes you can get dirty. Bring work gloves if you have them.
Drop by the community garden anytime between 9-11am Friday to help!

If you’ve got a two-wheeled chariot, we encourage you to join us for an inaugural Coffee Clunker. We’ll be supporting local coffee establishments, while celebrating the end of the semester, and getting a few extra miles under our belt. Feel free to hop off the route whenever you need to leave.
This is an open ride for any cyclist at any ability level.
When: Friday, May 3 from 4:30 p.m. – ?
Where: We’ll gather in front of the Foss Center, on the grassy area
Why: To be healthier, to create community, to support local businesses, to relieve a bit of end-of-semester stress

After working in URGO for 6 and ½ years, Kirsten O’Brien will be leaving Augsburg to take a position as Grants Management Associate with the Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies. Students, faculty and staff who have worked with Kirsten in her role as URGO’s Undergraduate Research, Graduate School and National Fellowships Specialist are keenly aware of the considerable gifts Kirsten brought to every interaction and every task. Her attention to quality and supportive nature helped Augsburg students and alums reach their goals of attaining off-campus summer research, graduate school or national fellowship placements. Her considerable planning skills insured near-flawless Z events, Court Agre Summer Research Symposiums and URGO’s Summer Research Programs.
URGO will be hosting an open house in Kirsten’s honor in the URGO/McNair/STEM Programs suite (Hagfors 101) on Wednesday, May 1st from 2:00 to 4:30. Come by for cake and refreshments and to wish Kirsten well on her next career venture.

Fellow Auggie Cyclists!
Can’t join us? We’d still love you to join our group, track your miles, and keep in touch for future rides — we’re hoping to have one a month over the summer. A link to the route, a picture of the route with highlighted hilly areas, and mileage tracker can be found in the calendar event below — so make sure to add it to your calendar!

Building on Augsburg University’s thirty-year history with the Nobel Peace Prize Forum and as part of our sesquicentennial celebration, Augsburg is pleased to announce the launch of the new Human Rights Forum. The event will bring together students, global changemakers, and local activists to explore innovative ways to take action in our ongoing pursuit of human rights issues globally and domestically.
The 2019 Human Rights Forum will take place at Augsburg University on October 28 and 29. It is open to the entire Augsburg community, partner schools, and the general public. The event will feature approximately 20 speakers, including six from the Human Rights Foundation roster, and include both larger plenaries, breakout, and workshop sessions.
The opening day will focus on global issues and perspectives and is developed in partnership with the Human Rights Foundation, a nonprofit that sponsors the Oslo Freedom Forum each year, both founded by Thor Halvorssen, a Venezuelan human rights activist. The Human Rights Foundation has an impressive roster of young and diverse human rights activists, and promotes and protects human rights globally within authoritarian regimes.
Our second day will feature speakers and sessions exploring racial justice, indigenous rights and environmental sustainability, with this programming developed in partnership with campus departments and centers, partner institutions, and sponsors.
There will be opportunities for Augsburg classes to attend Forum sessions during normal class periods as well as to have guest speakers visit individual classes. We welcome campus-wide engagement both in the planning process as well as during the event days.

A devised performance created to explore the idea(s) of home(s). Is it a building, a community, a person, or ourselves?
When we are forced to leave our homes or forced to go back home, how do we start this process? What do we bring, how do we travel back, how do we assimilate? Is that place/destination even our home?
This project hopes to answer some of these questions.
This event is free.
Date and Time: April 24th at 7:30 pm.
