Special Yoga Class Wednesday 2/14

Good Morning. I will be teaching yoga at Augsburg this semester. Please join us Wednesday’s from 12:15 pm- 1:00 pm in the Racquetball Court (Si-Melby 130).

Next Wednesday, February 14th will be a special class focused on the heart chakra, the area of energy centered near our heart. When this chakra is balanced, we feel love, compassion, and self-acceptance. It will be a slower paced class focusing on poses to balance this chakra. Mats will be available if you do not have your own mat. Open to all students, staff, faculty, and any others part of the Augsburg community. Sven Sundgaard is a meteorologist at Kare 11 with a passion for climate and the environment. Sven has traveled the world extensively highlighting climate change and environmental issues. Join him as he discusses why the planet’s Arctic and Antarctic regions are particularly vulnerable to changes in the delicate climate balance. The Arctic is warming at more than twice the rate as the rest of the planet and this is already affecting the web of life there. Cosponsored by the Norwegian Consulate and Norway House.

How do the religiously unaffiliated factor into this current moment of political polarization, when many are seeking to increase political and civic participation? Join us for a symposium exploring this important topic, beginning with a keynote from Phil Zuckerman—chair of Pitzer College’s Secular Studies program and author of numerous books including The Nonreligious (Oxford, 2016) and Living the Secular Life (Penguin, 2014)—followed by a panel of researchers who study the religiously unaffiliated. Concluding the evening will be a conversation about how local community organizers and elected officials are engaging religiously diverse populations in their efforts, particularly the religiously unaffiliated.

Black Hygienic Drive

With homelessness being something that disproportionately affects people of color, supplies that are for them are needed. Please donate hygienic supplies or money that will be used to provide supplies to homeless shelters that are predominately inhabited by Black people.

Supplies can be found at your local Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, etc under a label of “Multicultural hair” usually. Some popular brands are Shea moisture, Cantu, Mixed Chicks..etc.

No contribution is too big or too small. Please help support a great cause!

Products or donations can be dropped off at the Oyate Commons in the Multicultural Student Services.

The Center for Wellness and Counseling is offering FREE depression and anxiety screenings TODAY – Wednesday 1/31 from 9:30 – 3:30 pm in the CWC office (first floor Anderson Residence Hall). Stop by the CWC office, complete a short assessment and have a 10 minute meeting with a counselor to review the assessment and get additional resources. Good Morning! I will be teaching yoga at Augsburg this semester. Please join us today from 12:15 pm- 1:00 pm in the Racquetball Court (Si-Melby 130). This class will take place every Wednesday until the end of the semester.
We will practice flowing breath to movement, staying in the present moment, and challenging our bodies through different poses during this 45 minute yoga practice. Mats will be available if you do not have your own mat. Open to all students, staff, faculty, and any others part of the Augsburg community. Take Control of Your Health: Register Now for January Biometrics Health Screening

To kick off Augsburg Total Wellness for 2018, Augsburg Faculty and Staff will have the opportunity to participate in an on-site health screening event that will include a fasting biometric test. On-campus screenings will be held from January 30th through February 1st, in East Commons, Christensen Center.

To register for the Health Screening check out the emailed registration link in the email titled–Take Control of Your Health: REGISTER NOW for January Biometrics Health Screening!

Please note that you will need to fast 8-10 hours prior to your appointment. The health screen includes: total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, blood pressure and BMI.

Participation in the biometrics health screen is free, confidential, and entirely voluntary. Registration is required. All faculty and staff enrolled in the HDHP, who complete the health screening, will be eligible to receive a $50 HSA contribution. Those not eligible for an HSA contribution will be entered into a separate prize drawing.

The Community Connections Conference is a city-wide event hosted annually by the Neighborhood and Community Relations Department. Join community members, non-profits, City departments and elected officials to share ideas and develop strategies to create and impact change as a community.

This year’s conference theme is Aspire. Collaborate. Transform.

Aspire: Creating outcomes through capturing your ideas, ambitions and visions of what the city can become.

Collaborate: Coming together to develop strategies to achieve these outcomes.

Transform: Creating and impacting change as a community.

The overall goal of the conference is to build diversity and capacity of neighborhood organizations and community organizations by providing new and innovative ideas through collaboration and participation. The conference includes:
