Laura Kundel, a junior biochemistry major, just received the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship. In addition to the monetary award of $7,500 Laura will now be deemed competitive for the top graduate programs in her field. There were 1,343 applicants from 451 institutions and 396 winners.

Lara has been a Sundquist research scholar the past two summers, once with Dr. Tara Mader and once with Dr. Wentzel. Dr. Wentzel assisted Laura with the research proposal section of the Goldwater and Wentzel, Mader and Allen all wrote letters on Laura’s behalf. Laura is scheduled to conduct research again this summer with Dr. Wentzel.

Laura is currently Vice President of Tri-Beta, an honors program student, member of the chemistry club and an organic chemistry tutor.

Her sister, Holly Kundel, won a Goldwater 2 years ago and is currently in the first year of her NSF Graduate Research Fellowship at the University of MN.

Kudos Laura!
