Help Out Unsheltered Relatives at Camp Nenookaasi in East Phillips

submitted by gilmerje@augsburg.edu

Camp Nenookaasi – located at East 24th Street and 13th Avenue South, Minneapolis – is a community based healing camp rooted in native practices & inclusive of all unsheltered relatives.

Some ways to help:
Call your council person and ask the city to provide porta potties and daily trash pick-up.

Volunteer: Join a morning kitchen shift or security shift. If you are new, volunteers will greet you at the door and work with you to train you in. We also need volunteers in the afternoons, to help do whatever is needed on a given day. And, we could even use volunteers today to help organize the kitchen storage area!
Follow this link to sign up for a shift: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1epHxM0D8ottaFgJLg5U6RWbQ48Ycy_EKgPx0CxbZgkY/edit#gid=208145268

Contribute food and supplies: Keeping 150 people fed, protected from the elements, and safe requires constant supply runs. It would be exceptionally helpful to have more people dropping off food and supplies on a regular basis, such as: peanut butter, jelly, bread, sugar, disposable hot cups (no lids needed), disposable plates, bowls, and paper napkins. If you or your faith community or group of friends can commit to a daily delivery of these goods, even better.

Contribute money: You can also contribute money via the Venmo (@Nenookaasi-Camp) or cash app ($Nenookaasi) accounts.
Ready to help? Please email or text Delaney at delaneyrussellmn@gmail.com or 612-598-9508. Delaney will either get back to you or connect you with someone else who will.

Also follow on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/campnenookaasi/), Twitter (https://twitter.com/campnenookaasi), and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/people/Camp-Nenookaasi/61551908157100/) for ongoing updates, needs, and calls to action.

When you sign up for weekly local produce deliveries part of the fee will help stock the corner store shelves of our most food-insecure neighborhoods with affordable fresh produce. The simple act of getting a delivery subscription helps community members get reliable access to affordable fresh produce!

Weekly deliveries are available for $16 (small) or $25 (for larger households) and include add-ons like farm fresh eggs and locally roasted coffee. Recent Phishing Emails

submitted by krajewsk@augsburg.edu

Please watch out for two recent phishing emails with the titles “ASSESSMENT REVIEW REPORT FOR ALL MEMBERS” and “FREE DOWNSIZING AND GIVEAWAY ITEMS FOR ALL STUDENTS / STAFFS.” The first email in particular tries to trick you into entering your password into an online form. The second email is trying to get money from you.

In both cases you should mark them as spam to train Google’s spam filter. If you are concerned that the first email did trick you then you should change your password on Inside Augsburg – under “Account Utilities.”

Also, pay close attention when you get Duo pushes on your phone. Duo tells you the location from where the push originated. A strange location is a red flag. If you’re not expecting a push you should deny it and change your password. That means someone is trying to login to your account.

If IT or Google detects your account has been compromised it will be disabled and you will need to contact IT to get access again. Students can contact the Tech Desk for help and faculty and staff can contact the LFCs for help.

Application Still Open: STEM Peer Mentorship Program

submitted by xiongll9@augsburg.edu

Interesting Being a STEM Mentor or Mentee?

If so, STEM Peer Mentorship wants you!

STEM Peer Mentorship is a student-led mentoring program that focuses on providing support to First-years and Sophomores as they navigate their academic and professional careers in STEM.

Mentors in STEM Peer Mentorship can play a pivotal role in establishing the success of beginning STEM students. If you’re a rising Junior or Senior in a STEM major, enjoy being a leader and/or have lots of advice & resources to share — this is for you!! (Transfer students are also welcome!)

Having a Mentor in STEM Peer Mentoring can be a major benefit in establishing the success of your STEM career. If you’re a first-year or sophomore in a STEM major interested in having a mentor and want to learn more about internships, scholarships, certain classes, etc… This is for you !

Augsburg’s STEM majors include:
-Biology
-Bio-psychology
-Bio-chemistry
-Chemistry
-Computer Science
-Data Science
-Environmental Studies
-Mathematics
-Physics

Students are matched according to their major and information they provide on the STEM Peer Mentoring Application (see link below!).

Generally, students are asked to commit about 3-4 hours/month of involvement as they meet one-on-one with their mentee and attend occasional group meetings.

Please apply! Complete the application below to express your interest to participate starting Fall 2023. We will be reaching out to everyone interested with more information. Any questions can be sent to stempeer@augsburg.edu.

Take the Rethinking I-94 Survey

submitted by peacock@augsburg.edu

Rethinking I-94 is a long-term planning process led by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) to engage communities that live, work, commute, and play along the I-94 corridor between Minneapolis and St. Paul. Rethinking I-94 has reached an important milestone: design alternatives have been released to the public. Alternatives range from keeping things the same to creating an at-grade boulevard to expanding the number of freeway lanes. MnDOT is seeking feedback on these alternatives via an on-line survey (link below). Please take the survey and share your thoughts and insights.
