The Boren Scholarship is an initiative by the US Federal Government to increase the study of languages by individuals committed to public service careers. The Boren Scholarship can be used to cover a variety of study abroad experiences where language learning is the focus. URGO and Study Abroad provide joint advising on this program and can assist any applicant in selecting a program, developing budgets and writing/editing application essays.

Scholarship amounts:
Up to $25,000 for 25-52 weeks (preferred)
Up to $12,500 for 12-24 weeks
Up to $8,000 for 8-11 weeks (STEM majors only)

Summer Health Professions Education Program, or SHPEP, is a free summer enrichment program focused on improving access to information and resources for college students interested in the health professions. SHPEP’s goal is to strengthen the academic proficiency and career development of students underrepresented in the health professions and prepare them for a successful application and matriculation to health professions schools.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

– Must be a high school graduate and currently enrolled as a freshman or sophomore in college.
– Applicants should have earned no more than 60 credits when submitting their application.
– Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate credits are not counted.
– Have a minimum overall college GPA of 2.5.
– Be a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident, or an individual granted deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Application Timeline:
– Application Opens: November 1
– Application Closes: February 5th (11:59 PM EST)
– Admission Decisions Released: March 15th

Community Engagement Project – F2022

The Augsburg Music Department invites students to join a trip to Peru this coming May. Music students will have the opportunity to visit historically and culturally enriching sites as we share the joy of music-making with Peruvian and international students studying at Markham College in the beautiful seaside Miraflores district in Lima. Our trip will include a 4-day, 3-night stay in the culturally significant region of Cuzco with visits to Incan archeological treasures including Machu Picchu high in the Andes mountains. This trip is also open to non-music students through our partners in the Languages and Cross-Cultural Studies Department. Co-hosted by Markham College, The British School.

May 8–22, 2023
Tour cost: $4,300

14-day tour including airlines, hotels, most meals, and a 4-day, 3-night excursion including flights and hotels in Cuzco and Machu Picchu. Augsburg students are covered by the university’s travel insurance. Billing will happen through your financial services account.

The Boren Scholarship is an initiative by the US Federal Government to increase the study of languages by individuals committed to public service careers. The Boren Scholarship can be used to cover a variety of study abroad experiences where language learning is the focus. URGO and Study Abroad provide joint advising on this program and can assist any applicant in selecting a program, developing budgets and writing/editing application essays.

Scholarship amounts:
Up to $25,000 for 25-52 weeks (preferred)
Up to $12,500 for 12-24 weeks
Up to $8,000 for 8-11 weeks (STEM majors only)

Immediately preceding the next faculty meeting, please join the assessment committee from 3 – 3:30pm on Wednesday, November 9th, in Hagfors Center room 106 for an opportunity to discuss the results of a recent pair of high-quality surveys of students and faculty.

In the spring of 2022, hundreds of Augsburg First Year and Senior students completed the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). This survey measures students’ perception of Academic Challenge, Student-Faculty Interactions, Quality of Interactions, and experience with High Impact Practices. Meanwhile, tens of faculty members (proportionally, a fine result!) provided their perception of students’ experiences in these same domains on the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE).

The combined NSSE-FSSE results offer a unique opportunity to directly compare student and faculty perspectives on a wide range of academic issues. Whether you teach in upper or lower-division courses – and regardless of your academic discipline – these data offer something for everyone.

A copy of the summary report will be made available to faculty members who RSVP in advance of the session. We will set aside the majority of the time for discussion of the results, so we encourage attendees to preview the findings. A recording of the event will be available for those who are unable to attend. Unfortunately, any recording can’t possibly offer the thrills and excitement of first-hand experience with such breathtaking data, so in-person attendance is highly encouraged.
