Professors John Zobitz and Emily Schilling (along with 14 undergrads) just had an article published in Spora: A Journal of Biomathematics. In this scholarly that was a collaboration between faculty and students, two cohorts of students (in 2011 and 2016) contributed to the study design and analysis, using tools acquired and developed while taking an upper division mathematics of mathematical modeling in the biological sciences. Beyond the mathematical tools students also learned about the elements and process of scientific writing to construct drafts of the manuscript.
