With the week bringing more developments in efforts to discriminate against individuals from specific countries, a reminder that the Political Science Dept. is sponsoring an event this Saturday on the World War II experience of Japanese Americans. The event is co-sponsored by the Twin Cities Japanese American Citizens League.
Dr. Mitch Maki, President and CEO of Go For Broke National Education Center, will speak on the Japanese American experience during World War II. This event is intended specifically to raise awareness among students, but anyone interested is welcome to attend.

WHAT: Program on the World War II Japanese American experience
WHEN: Saturday, June 30, 10:00am-12:30pm
WHERE: Marshall Room Christensen Center
There is no charge, but food will be provided, so attendees are requested to email Carolyn Nayematsu (nayem001@umn.edu) with your name and any dietary restrictions. Students are asked to provide the name of their school.
Dr. Maki will also speak at 6:00pm that evening at the opening of an exhibit on the World War II Japanese American experience, at the Minnesota Historical Society, Fort Snelling. The exhibit will include a display on Japanese American students who attended Augsburg during WWII. Thanks to Professor Phil Adamo, who provided key assistance that made this possible.
