June 2-5, the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) will offer the second of two institutes focused on Diversity, Civility, and the Liberal Arts. This Institute is intended to address major issues that drive unrest on today’s campus, including protests directed at public policy, social inequity, bias, and identity that sometimes become disruptive or even violent. The Provost’s Office is hoping to send a team from Augsburg and has been working with a few faculty and staff on the application. Applications must include a proposal that outlines how we intend to use the experience, if we are selected to participate, on our campus. While we can only send four people, we want the proposal to reflect the broader interests and commitments of the community. The Provost invites members of the community to join her for a conversation on how this institute might be used to advance our commitments to inclusion, equity, and cultural competence at Augsburg.
A meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 8, from 12:00-1:00 pm in LIN 301. All are welcome — please feel free to bring your lunch! If Augsburg is accepted to participate in the Institute, additional open meetings will be held throughout the Spring, as we want the team’s work to help advance our collective goals.
