DPS—Spring Parking Sale Date

Hello Auggies,

Hope Finals are going well for everyone. We just wanted to announce that Spring 2022 Permits will go on sale December 13 @ 9am. If you bought a Year Permit before the start of the year, your permit is still active for Spring Semester. If you only bought a Fall Permit, you’ll need to purchase a Spring Permit to avoid being ticketed and/or towed.

As always, don’t be afraid to email parking@augsburg.edu with any questions you may have.

Moodle Gradebook Reminder

Instructors, in the interest of ensuring integrity and accuracy for your grading methods as you prepare final grade submissions this term, please remember that Moodle will include grade items in the overall course grade calculation only when there is a value entered. This is to say, empty grades are not counted against your students.
Make sure any items to be included in course grades have a value. If a student didn’t submit work, entering a zero (or other minimum score) will ensure their missing work is reflected in their course total. Please click the link below for more information on entering zeros.

This program explores economic, business, ethical and religious forces that have created vast changes in Greek life. Gain an understanding of Greek history, Greek culture, and how that has led to the current Greek business/economic model.

Spring ’22 Online Course in Playwriting and Human Rights

There are a few spots remaining on the spring 2022 semester courses:

*Playwriting: Exploring the Writer’s Theatrical Voice, PWC300; and

*Topics in Playwriting: Human Rights and Social Justice, PWC310

These courses are taught in partnership with The Playwrights’ Center, in Minneapolis. The courses provide intimate creative and professional mentorship, while bringing together writers from across the country in a vibrant learning community. Courses count as Augsburg courses and can be taken as part of an Auggie’s regular semester load.

Counseling and Crisis Support During Break (and Anytime CWC is Closed)

For many the holiday season can be one of rest and joy, while for others it can be a time of stress, sadness, and loneliness. Knowing this, and in anticipation of the long winter break during which the CWC office is closed, we wanted to remind the campus community of an important souce of support available when our office is closed (for long breaks as well as simply during weekends and evenings). Any time CWC is closed, phone counseling and crisis support are available to students by calling CWC’s main line (612-330-1707) and pressing #1. We urge you to use this resource now, during the break, and any time it might be useful during the academic year. And we wish you a break that is what you need it to be.

Students – don’t forget about TutorMe! It is available to Augsburg students 24/7 and offers tutoring in over 300 subjects from qualified tutors. Students are able to use 3 hours a week; 3 one hour sessions or 6 thirty-minute sessions. You can access TutorMe through any of your Moodle classes. At the top left of your screen there is an orange tab to see the side panel of resources. As you scroll down, you will see the “Augsburg Tools” section and underneath is the link to TutorMe. Interested in Hosting International Students for Dinner?

A new semester is just around the corner, and luckily we are expecting new international students to join us this spring—representing countries like Egypt, Sweden, China, South Korea and Norway to name a few!

Our office, the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), is looking for faculty and staff members who are interested in hosting our new international students for a dinner off-campus in your home.

Here are the details:
Date: Thursday, Jan 6, 2021
Time: Pick up at 5 p.m. with a return to campus around 7 p.m.

We ask that our hosts pick up students from campus and return them once dinner is completed. The new incoming group will consist of 7-15 international students.

COVID status: All the new international students coming from abroad are required to follow the CDC and MDH guidelines, with a required 7-day quarantine (unvaccinated exempt students), and COVID testing on day 3-5 upon arrival.

All students will show proof of a negative COVID test prior to traveling to the United States (tested 24 hours before departure), proof of recovery and/or proof of vaccination.

Any students needing quarantine, will have ended this period on January 6. And will have received their first dose of the vaccine.

Bookstore Accounts are Open for Spring — Here’s What You Need to Know

Bookstore charge accounts will open the day after you’ve registered for spring term. The last day to charge online orders is Sunday, January 16th, 2022. The last day to charge in-store purchases is Wednesday, January 19th, 2022. Due to the financial aid cycle, you can only charge expenses to your bookstore account during this specific period. Be sure to plan ahead!

Transcultural Music Therapy Study Abroad in July – Apply Now

Explore meanings and expressions of music, health, illness, and healing transculturally in the context of South Africa. The focus of this course is on developing an understanding of individuals, families, groups and communities with diverse cultural backgrounds and the use of music in community and for healing within their culture.

Thó Wiŋ Magazine Submissions Now Open

Submissions for Thó Wiŋ Magazine are now open through January 10th! We accept poetry, fiction, screenwriting/playwriting excerpts, creative non fiction, visual arts, and short films.

We are also looking for editors for the 2021-2022 school year!

Editor Position Description: As an editor, you will look through the submissions in your designated editing categories (you will be able to choose which categories you would like to edit for) and give your opinion on whether or not each piece should be accepted into the magazine. You will be provided with training on how to evaluate and give feedback on the submissions prior to reading the submissions.

Join Us Fun & Informative Virtual Event Demonstrating the Power of Debate!

The Minnesota Urban Debate League is proud to present our 9th annual Mayors’ Challenge Debate Fundraising Breakfast: The Great Water Debate. This event will be hosted virtually by Augsburg University on Monday, December 13th, 2021.

Four of our debaters from Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Roseville school districts will face off in two teams, articulating arguments on how we steward one of our greatest resources – water.

Our VIP panel of judges (and you!) will pick the most persuasive team.

You will also see how the MNUDL creates new opportunities for our students to be champions – both in and out of the classroom.

Governor Tim Walz (Invited) and Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walz will host the Governor’s table. Mayor Melvin Carter, Mayor Jacob Frey, and special guests will judge our debate. You’ll also get to vote which team wins as an audience member!

Congratulations to Five Gilman Scholarship Winners

We are pleased to announce FIVE Auggies were selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship in the last round of applications to receive up to $5,000 toward a study abroad program! The applicant pool is highly competitive, but the hard work and determination of these students paved the way for their amazing accomplishment.

Winners include:

Asha Abdirazak is a Computer Science major who plans to study at Augsburg’s exchange partner at iCLA Yamanashi Gakuin University in Kofu, Japan in Fall 2022

Salma Abikar is a Bio-Psychology major who plans to study at Augsburg’s exchange partner Sungshin Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea this Spring 2022.

Ingri Ramirez Martin is a Sociology major who plans to study at Augsburg’s exchange partner at iCLA Yamanashi Gakuin University in Kofu, Japan in Fall 2022

Since 2008, **seventy-seven** Augsburg students have received Gilman scholarships, totaling OVER $290,000.

It takes a village to support students in their application process. Many thanks to Catherine Maun, Emilie Lenz and the whole financial aid team, staff in TRIO, MSS, Academic Advising, and URGO and, of course, faculty mentors/advisors.
