Defend Glendale & Public Housing Coalition seeks a Graphic Designer
This position can be filled by UMN undergraduate students, non-University community members, or students affiliated with non-UMN institutions.
Schedule: February 7 to April 7, 2023
15–20 hours per week
Flexible schedule with meetings three times a week
Hybrid; in-person and remote work
Reports to: Defend Glendale & Public Housing Coalition Campaign Organizer Ladan Yusuf
Summary
The goal of this job is to design graphics for an exhibit celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Glendale Townhomes, the oldest public housing development in Minneapolis. The exhibit will examine the legacy of discrimination and divestment in public housing, and celebrate Glendale’s cultural diversity and the community’s determination to maintain it.
Main Responsibilities
Create graphics for the layout of the exhibit and displays
Support the development of narrative and visual content for the exhibit, including posters, videos, and interactive displays
Assist in creating displays and interactive elements, including a digital walking tour
Prepare final exhibit materials and content, review and coordinate the production of the topics and displays
Required Qualifications
Experience and comfort working with communities of color in racial justice and/or decolonial initiatives
Experience synthesizing research and collected images into narrative/visual presentations
Experience creating a cohesive branding project from start to finish
Able to work with community feedback to strengthen project
Working knowledge of Adobe CS (InDesign) with access to digital resources required for graphic production
Strong organizational and communication skills (writing and graphic)
