CTL/CWC Session: Creating a Well and Connected Classroom

submitted by reederm@augsburg.edu

Taking pre-emptive and intentional steps to create a classroom environment that promotes wellness and connection has benefits for students and for faculty. Creating classrooms that promote well-being and connection can decrease work required for faculty, increase student success, and make the classroom a more enjoyable and comfortable environment for all. This session focuses on developing strategies for creating a well and connected classroom.

This session will be recorded and available on the CTL website home page by Jan 18, 2022.

Before Your Spring 2023 Courses Begin (Part 2)

submitted by slettens@augsburg.edu

In preparation for Spring semester your E-learning team is here to help you remember some key “to do’s’” before Spring 2023 courses begin.

1) We recommend that you send a friendly welcome email/announcement to students enrolled in your class about a week before the start of your class. This email could include: course syllabus and schedule; class modality reminder (on-campus, hybrid, online); Zoom link; required books; and information about starting course. NOTE: Announcement emails do not get sent to students if your course is hidden, so be sure to make your course visible to students before posting in the Announcements forum.

2) Confirm all CLASS support is identified and prepared for (i.e. captioning). CLASS can be contacted at class@augsburg.edu. You can find more information in the link below:

https://www.augsburg.edu/class/

3) You have access to resources like Moodle 101, 102, and 201 which will help inform you and revitalize your Moodle skills. You can find these under “My courses” on Moodle.

4) Check out other ways to leverage Moodle through the link below:

For additional help, contact your LFC or IDT (Instructional Design Technologist).

Attending to Attendance: Creating a Course/Policy That Works

submitted by reederm@augsburg.edu

CTL invites you to join Jennifer Bankers-Fulbright (Biology & CTL Director) and Audrey Lensmire (Education) for a 90-minute Zoom workshop Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 10 – 11:30 am. This workshop, inspired by faculty discussion at the December faculty meeting, has been specifically created for Augsburg teaching faculty who are experiencing frustration related to student attendance in their courses and would like to do something about it that meets both instructor and student needs. This workshop will ask you to think about why you have your current attendance policies, what isn’t working and what do you want to happen, followed by time to literally “workshop” your Spring course policies with others who have similar issues (as well as some solutions!). Faculty who have successful attendance policies in their course are also encouraged to attend to act as peer mentors!

If you have any questions, would like to request accessibility accommodations, or would like to “officially register” as a peer mentor, please contact Jennifer L. Bankers-Fulbright, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at ctl@augsburg.edu or bankers@augsburg.edu.

Looking forward to a productive start to Spring 2023!

Get Your Art Published: Literary and Arts Submission Now Open for Thó Wiŋ Magazine

submitted by belloaa@augsburg.edu

Hello,

Thó Wiŋ Magazine and I am so excited to tell you that SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

Are you an artist or writer who wants to have your work published? Well, here’s your chance.

Thó Wiŋ Magazine is curating our annual literary and arts publication. This opportunity is open to students, faculty, staff, and anyone else in the Augsburg community so tell your friends to submit something too. We accept art of all kinds: poetry, fiction, nonfiction, screenwriting/playwriting, other prose, visual arts including painting, photography, graphic design, drawing, multi-media, photographs of sculptures or ceramics. We can create and print QR codes for short films, animation, video, or music. If your kind of art isn’t listed, submit it anyway! We like arts from all cultures and all skill levels. If you create art in another language, submit that too (but maybe include a translation with it to make it more accessible to us monolinguals). We especially encourage artists with marginalized identities to submit their art so we can uplift your voices! Thó Wiŋ Magazine will put a printed book together and distribute on campus for free. You can submit up to five different works across any genre. Submissions will close February 1st. Visit https://twmagazine.submittable.com/submit

Hit me up if you have any questions, jensen11@augsburg.edu or TWMagazine@augsburg.edu

To participate in this study, you must:
