Professor Matt Maruggi will be teaching the RLN 248: INTERFAITH EATING and ETHICS course and leading the group to Italy.

MCAT Test Prep Scholarship Application

Critical Language Scholarship Spark participants will spend approximately 8 weeks during the summer learning either Arabic, Russian, or Chinese through online classes and activities facilitated by native speakers. Must be a beginning level learner with no classroom experience. This is a virtual initiative for undergraduate students to learn essential languages for America’s engagement with the world.

– 10 hours of intense live group instruction a week
– Cultural activities and individual consultations
– Monthly professional development workshops and inclusive support

Participants of CLS Spark will receive:
– Language instruction and cultural programming
– Textbooks and language learning materials
– Language gains certified using the widely-recognized ACTFL OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) assessment
– Non-competitive eligibility for U.S. government employment for up to three -years after the program completion;
– Academic credit issued through Bryn Mawr College; and
– A stipend towards equipment and connectivity costs (for example, a web camera or microphone)

URGO has limited funding for academic-year research grants for undergraduates who wish to gain research experience with an Augsburg faculty member. Students are paid $1,200 for 80 hours of research. Research must be completed by May 20th. Student-faculty research teams are encouraged to submit proposals as soon as possible as the funds will be awarded on a rolling basis.

The URGO Advisory Committee will review proposals every other Thursday. Their next meeting is Thursday, October 19th. Proposals need to be submitted by noon on Wednesday the 18th in order to be considered.

URGO Academic Year Research

Spend 8-10 weeks next summer learning one of thirteen languages at an intensive study abroad! The Critical Language Scholarship Program seeks participants from a variety of fields, backgrounds, and career paths essential to America’s engagement with the world. Most programs do not require experience studying the selected language and are designed to promote rapid language gains and intercultural fluency.

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is
– A fully-funded 8-10 week language and cultural immersion program
– Students receive academic credit issued through Bryn Mawr College
– Part of a US State Department initiative to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages critical to national security and economic prosperity
– There are 13 languages that applicants can select from. Alumni of the program also receive up to three years of non-competitive eligibility (NCE) status when applying for federal government jobs

Competitive applicants will need
– To illustrate a commitment to language learning,
– A strong academic record and potential to succeed in a rigorous academic setting
– Ability to adapt to an intensive program and challenging cultural environment.
– Applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Batalden Book Group: We will be reading What Happened to You: Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing by Bruce Perry and Oprah Winfrey. The book group discussion will be held on Tuesday, November 14th from 3:30 – 5:00 (snacks provided). The GenEd(it) Group, convened in February 2023 and charged to finalize a set of proposed revisions to our undergraduate general education curriculum by December 2023, is excited to share an initial draft of proposed revisions to our general education curriculum. The proposed revisions outlined in the Working Draft (linked below) adhere to accreditation and State standards for general education, align with Augsburg’s mission and the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum, and are consistent with recommended best practices in general education.
