Many campus email accounts received a “Gadgets & Musical Items Donation” scam email last Friday night. Thank you to the many people who notified us about the scam — good scam-sense! On Friday night we initiated our security response protocol on any Augsburg email accounts that were compromised and were sending the scam emails.
Here’s some red flags I saw in the scam email
– It is not the type of thing we regularly do here. Amail provides a means to sell things.
– It directs you to NOT reply to the email but instead text a number.
– The deal sounds too good to be true.
