The Honors Program once again needs interviewers for honors scholarship candidates. Interviews will begin October 23 and run through February 3, Monday through Friday, whenever classes are in session. Go to the Honors Interview Scheduling form to sign up.

Interviews typically last between 20 and 30 minutes. We will notify you as soon as you are put on the schedule, and then confirm a day or two prior to your scheduled time that you have a student to interview. At that time, we will also send you a link to a brief training video (15 minutes), and ask that you review this before you conduct the interview. Heritage Day with Mary Lowe Oct. 24

submitted by glasere@augsburg.edu

On Tuesday, October 24, as part of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation series, we are excited to have Mary Lowe, associate professor of Religion at Augsburg University, lecture on: Martin Luther on the Body, Our Bodies, and the Body of Creation.

Professor Lowe will introduce Luther’s perspectives on bodies and creation and examine how—even today—his theology can help us better understand and address these embodied challenges.

This event is free and open to the public, and will take place in Hoversten Chapel from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm and will include a discussion and a reception.

Martin Luther on the Body, Our Bodies, and the Body of Creation Oct. 24

submitted by glasere@augsburg.edu

On Tuesday, October 24, as part of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation series, we are excited to have Mary Lowe, associate professor of Religion at Augsburg University, lecture on: Martin Luther on the Body, Our Bodies, and the Body of Creation.

Martin Luther wrote, “There are three elements in a human, the body, the soul, and the spirit.” Many of today’s complex issues involve our bodies and the body of creation: climate change, gender and sexuality, abuse, and deforestation, etc.

Engebretson awarded NSF Grant for magnetospheric and ionospheric research

submitted by robargej@augsburg.edu

Mark Engebretson, Professor Emeritus of Physics, has received a three year grant totaling $512,043 from the National Science Foundation to continue operation of the Magnetometer Array for Cusp and Cleft Studies (MACCS) network as well as analyze and disseminate its data. MACCS is a longitudinal array of high latitude magnetometers, instruments used for measuring the earth’s magnetism, covering the Eastern Canadian Arctic. Each MACCS site transmits data in near-real time, providing critical data for studies of various geospace phenomena, including solar wind-magnetosphere and magnetosphere-ionosphere interactions, the dynamics of the high latitude polar cap regions of the magnetosphere, and geomagnetic storms and substorms.

Engebretson and his team (Jennifer Posch, Laura Simms, Slava Pilipenko, and Erik Steinmetz) will conduct detailed studies of high-latitude ultra-low frequency waves using both ground-based and satellite data during magnetic storms. They will also explore the physical mechanisms involved in the excitation and propagation of ultra-low frequency waves through the magnetosphere-ionosphere system.

Up to six undergraduate students will have the opportunity to conduct research alongside Engebretson.

Garden plants and “stuff” available starting Wednesday

submitted by greena@augsburg.edu

This summer, the community gardeners worked with Oslund and Associates to envision a new space together. The time has come to make that space a reality!

Starting this Wednesday, Oct. 18, any plants, bricks, rocks, and structures left in the garden will be looking for either permanent or temporary homes. Our gardeners will be taking out what they want to save before then, and the community is invited to come and grab the rest. Please come and get them! Also please respect any signs placed on objects or plants that just haven’t been able to be moved yet. If there’s no sign attached – it’s all yours!

Plants available: raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb, chives, mint, bee balm, columbine, nettle, etc.

We will have space for perennials in the new garden next year, so if you are willing to take some home for the winter, plant them in a temporary space, and bring them back for us in the spring, let me know!

Help spread around the love and plants grown in this garden over the years!

Help Diversify Campus Cupboard

submitted by nguyenj@augsburg.edu

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to receive food suggestions from students to diversify the Campus Cupboard. Augsburg faculty, Campus Ministry, and other donors have asked for specific lists of foods Students of Colors and students from different cultural backgrounds would like to see in the Cupboard. Many of the foods we have at the Cupboard are lacking the diversity we see within our students, so if I could get some suggestions from students, that would be awesome!
Here is the link:

Heritage Day with Mary Lowe Oct. 24

submitted by glasere@augsburg.edu

On Tuesday, October 24, as part of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation series, we are excited to have Mary Lowe, associate professor of Religion at Augsburg University, lecture on: Martin Luther on the Body, Our Bodies, and the Body of Creation.

Martin Luther wrote, “There are three elements in a human, the body, the soul, and the spirit.” Many of today’s complex issues involve our bodies and the body of creation: climate change, gender and sexuality, abuse, and deforestation, etc.
