Make a Short Film for the Augsburg Spooky Film Fest

Feeling haunted by the Halloween spirit? Call your friends and make a short horror film this fall! Augsburg University students are invited to submit their short films with spooky/scary content to be screened at the Augsburg Student Spooky Film Festival, hosted by Augsburg Art Club. The free screening will be held in Sateren Auditorium on Wed. October 25th, with popcorn and candy available. You will be able to vote on your favorite films at the end of the screening, and the filmmaker with the highest voted film will receive a prize. The time limit for films is 10 minutes, and films can be submitted by uploading a high-quality version of your work to Google Drive and then sharing it with olsonl@augsburg.edu. Cancellation of Sept. 18 Open Forum for VP of Enrollment Management

The September 18 on-campus interview of the second candidate for the vice president for enrollment management has been cancelled.

President Pribbenow is working with Napier Executive Search, with support from the VP for Enrollment Management Search Committee, to identify additional candidates in the next two weeks to bring to campus at a future date. The consensus is that Augsburg has one strong candidate, and would benefit from bringing at least one other to campus.

Augsburg University is again participating in GiveMN’s annual Give to the Max Day on Thursday, November 16th. Last year, 30+ projects raised $208,000 in funding thanks to donations made through the Give to the Max website.

If your academic department, athletic team, or student organization has a cause that needs funding, Give to the Max is an excellent way to raise support. Over the last four years Augsburg has raised $1.2 million and lead the donation leaderboard for Colleges and Universities.

Giving life to inanimate objects made from cardboard, masking tape, newspapers and papier-mâché, we will create small and intimately-scaled puppet theater. Different forms introduced may include object theater, hand puppets, figure puppets, and doll/bunraku puppets and masks. We will explore creating an intimate theater from scratch inspired by poems, obituaries, or a love letter.

Intercultural Conflict Styles Today

This workshop makes use of the Intercultural Conflict Style (ICS) Inventory, which describes an individual’s preferred approach or style for resolving conflict by reflecting the individual’s culturally learned patterns for dealing with disagreements and expressing emotions. This workshop will not only teach individuals about their own preferred approach and style, but it will also teach individuals about the preferred approaches and styles of others. Finally, this workshop will give participants tangible skills that can be used when navigating conflicts across cultural differences. The increased understanding of intercultural conflict styles and tangible skills participants will receive from this workshop can enhance their overall intercultural competence in resolving disagreements across cultures in addition to help them to create more inclusive campus spaces. The VP for Enrollment Management open forums scheduled for today and tomorrow have been canceled as a result of the candidates withdrawing their candidacy for the position. In both cases, the candidates cited personal situations that prevented them from being able to fully commit to a transition at this time.

Songs For Sanctuary Concert Featuring Members of Cien Anos

Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church (2315 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis) invites everyone to “Who Is Our Neighbor? Songs for Sanctuary,” a fundraiser to respond with beauty and support to the needs of immigrants in our midst.

The event will be held Saturday, September 16, at 7 pm and will feature Bret Hesla, composer and folk singer, Kent Goodroad, jazz pianist, and members of Cien Anos, the Honduran band in town for the Nobel Peace Prize Forum.

Money raised will provide support to local sanctuary and immigration reform efforts, including the work of ISAIAH, the English Learning Center of Our Saviour’s Outreach Center, and material support to congregations providing sanctuary in Minnesota.

Come enjoy good music and support the work of providing sanctuary to people who are in fear of deportation in the current political climate.

The theater department’s annual Welcome Meeting will take place on Thursday, September 7th at 3:40pm in the Tjornhom-Nelson Theater (Foss Center).

This meeting is open to all students (majors and non-majors alike) interested in learning more about what the department has to offer; returning theater students are encouraged to attend! At the meeting, students will have the opportunity to meet faculty from the theater department, network with other Augsburg students interested in theater, and get a taste for the upcoming 2017-18 theater season. Refreshments will be provided!

Many world leaders, activists, civil rights leaders, and others, including Gabby Giffords, Barbara Bush, Ann Bancroft will be gathering to promote peacemaking and create a dialogue. Deliver Lunch with Campus Kitchen Today

It’s our first day back for Thursday lunch deliveries with elders in Phillips and Seward neighborhoods, and we need some help! It’s a Meals-on-Wheels style delivery where we pack lunches here on campus and then deliver to three apartment buildings, knocking on doors and chatting for a bit as we go. We deliver to 23 floors of the buildings, so deliverers should be comfortable going down lots of stairs or waiting for elevators.

Meet at the back of the kitchen (near the elevator in Christensen) at 11:30am TODAY if you can join us! We’ll be back to campus by 1:30pm.

Our first session for orchestra is today, Thursday, Sept. 7, at 5 p.m. No instruments – just a chance to meet, gather information, and prepare for the semester. Plan on being there and invite your friends to join! We welcome all string players looking for a musical home on-campus to come and play with the Augsburg Orchestra. No audition required. Students, faculty, staff, and friends of the Augsburg community are welcome to join. Regular rehearsals are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 – 6:40 p.m. in the choral room M-3 in the Music Building. See you there!

The open forum for the first candidate will be Friday, Sept. 8, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in Oren 100.

The other candidates’ open forum sessions, also from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., are scheduled as listed below:
