This workshop makes use of the Intercultural Conflict Style (ICS) Inventory, which describes an individual’s preferred approach or style for resolving conflict by reflecting the individual’s culturally learned patterns for dealing with disagreements and expressing emotions. This workshop will not only teach individuals about their own preferred approach and style, but it will also teach individuals about the preferred approaches and styles of others. Finally, this workshop will give participants tangible skills that can be used when navigating conflicts across cultural differences. The increased understanding of intercultural conflict styles and tangible skills participants will receive from this workshop can enhance their overall intercultural competence in resolving disagreements across cultures in addition to help them to create more inclusive campus spaces. To mark the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, Augsburg is hosting a series of events this fall. As the first event in this series, Bishop Eaton’s address, “Interfaith Friendships: How Difference Can Bring Us Together,” will explore Lutheran identity and the ongoing Reformation in the 21st century.

The VP for Enrollment Management open forums scheduled for today and tomorrow have been canceled as a result of the candidates withdrawing their candidacy for the position. In both cases, the candidates cited personal situations that prevented them from being able to fully commit to a transition at this time.
The next open forum for the VP of Enrollment Management is scheduled for Monday, September 18, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in Oren 100. The candidate’s credentials will be posted in A-mail on Friday.

Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church (2315 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis) invites everyone to “Who Is Our Neighbor? Songs for Sanctuary,” a fundraiser to respond with beauty and support to the needs of immigrants in our midst.
The event will be held Saturday, September 16, at 7 pm and will feature Bret Hesla, composer and folk singer, Kent Goodroad, jazz pianist, and members of Cien Anos, the Honduran band in town for the Nobel Peace Prize Forum.
Money raised will provide support to local sanctuary and immigration reform efforts, including the work of ISAIAH, the English Learning Center of Our Saviour’s Outreach Center, and material support to congregations providing sanctuary in Minnesota.
Come enjoy good music and support the work of providing sanctuary to people who are in fear of deportation in the current political climate.

The theater department’s annual Welcome Meeting will take place on Thursday, September 7th at 3:40pm in the Tjornhom-Nelson Theater (Foss Center).
This meeting is open to all students (majors and non-majors alike) interested in learning more about what the department has to offer; returning theater students are encouraged to attend! At the meeting, students will have the opportunity to meet faculty from the theater department, network with other Augsburg students interested in theater, and get a taste for the upcoming 2017-18 theater season. It’s our first day back for Thursday lunch deliveries with elders in Phillips and Seward neighborhoods, and we need some help! It’s a Meals-on-Wheels style delivery where we pack lunches here on campus and then deliver to three apartment buildings, knocking on doors and chatting for a bit as we go. We deliver to 23 floors of the buildings, so deliverers should be comfortable going down lots of stairs or waiting for elevators.
Meet at the back of the kitchen (near the elevator in Christensen) at 11:30am TODAY if you can join us! We’ll be back to campus by 1:30pm.

In addition to welcoming our incoming first-year students at Opening Convocation, we’re also planning a series of activities to take place immediately following the Convocation. We hope you will join us for the fun. Here is some information you’ll find helpful in planning your participation:
9:30 a.m.: Opening Convocation
Please note the time change for this event to begin one hour earlier than in prior years. Due to space constraints in the chapel, there is seating available only for our first-year students, their AugSem leaders and the faculty who will be processing. To accommodate others that wish to be involved, we will be hosting a livestream viewing of the entire event in Sateren Auditorium for all staff, community members, and current students.
10:30 a.m.: Kick-Off Celebration and Lunch in the Quadrangle
Everyone is invited! For those not planning to attend the Opening Convocation, please plan to join in the festivities and line up outside of Foss and on the sidewalk along 22nd Avenue by 10:20am to welcome our incoming class and the livestream audience as they recess from the event and to kick off the name change activities with some special performances and a fun “parade” to the quad!
Food stations, musical performances, games & other activities will be set up throughout the quad. Community members will be able to have Augsburg University logo t-shirts screen printed onsite, participate in a photo-booth, volunteer to assemble hygiene kits for the Health Commons and participate in some fun games with colleagues and friends.

1:00 p.m.: Conclusion
First year students and others participating in the day’s community service projects will begin departing around 12:30pm. Remaining community members are welcome to enjoy the event and activities until 1:00 p.m.

This year the Nobel Peace Prize Forum will be honoring the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet, and their work creating peace during a tumultuous time in Tunisia’s history. World leaders, activists, civil rights leaders, and many others will be gathering at the Forum to promote peacemaking and create a dialogue among both the local Twin Cities community and the greater global community.
In the spirit of fostering dialogue and engagement during the nobel peace prize forum, local and national artists have collaborated to create an outdoor exhibition of installations across the Augsburg University campus. These installations visually represent a form of dialogue and are connected by the forum’s concentric circles. This work highlights the layered and often overlapping complexity of finding solutions to global issues; that small moments of inspiration can resonate through our actions; and that art may stand in the center of an ever-expanding understanding of our world.
In “Future Light,” artist Asia Ward asks us to consider potential uses of sunlight under a canopy of dichroic film panels. “Common thread” by Background Stories provides an active, changing visual narrative created by the participants of this Forum. Design & Agency’s canopy of “Flint Project” creates space for reflection on our resources, how our wellbeing hangs in the balance, and young artists from Chicago’s National Youth Art Movement Against Gun Violence (NYAM) are not just seen and heard but in fact hold space on campus. They invite discussion through provocative large scale artwork, both physically and virtually.

This year the Nobel Peace Prize Forum will be honoring the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet, and their work creating peace during a tumultuous time in Tunisia’s history. World leaders, activists, civil rights leaders, and many others will be gathering at the Forum to promote peacemaking and create a dialogue among both the local Twin Cities community and the greater global community.

Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Harrison Neighborhood Association invite everyone from throughout the Metro to the 15th Annual Block Party on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The celebration will be at Redeemer, 1800 Glenwood Avenue, Minneapolis. Ever wondered how the library creates digital collections? Have you heard about our institutional repository and wondered “what the heck is that” or “why should I care”? Then mark your calendar and stop by Lindell Library this Friday, August 11, between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Step inside our digitization lab and see how we preserve Auggie history through the ages. Learn all about Idun (ee-doon), Augsburg’s own institutional repository, and how you can use Idun to publish and disseminate everything from faculty books and articles to grad student theses to events such as convocations, theatrical productions, or musical performances. All Auggies — students, faculty, and staff — are invited to the Augsburg University Kick-Off on September 5. The day will include traditional and new experiences for the full community and is intended to be a festival-like atmosphere as we officially become Augsburg University.
The schedule includes:
–9:30 a.m.: Opening Convocation in Hoversten. The Opening Convocation, for incoming students and AugSem leaders, is starting earlier than previous years to accommodate the 10:30 a.m. festival in the Quadrangle. Faculty and staff are asked to line up at 9:20 a.m. to applaud students as they process into Hoversten Chapel for the Opening Convocation.
–10:30 a.m.: Kick-Off Celebration and Lunch in the Quadrangle. Food stations will be set up throughout the Quadrangle. Community members will be able to have Augsburg University logo t-shirts screen printed onsite, participate in a photo-booth, make hygiene kits for the Health Commons, and check out a special “reveal” on Science Hall. Large-party format games, stilt walkers, and more are part of the celebration.
–1 p.m.: First-Year Student Service Projects
All faculty, students, and staff are encouraged to set aside a portion of their day to join the festivities and celebrate!
EDOR NELSON FIELD: New padding and windscreens will be ordered for Edor Nelson Field. The screens will be branded and will reflect the colors of Augsburg University — maroon and grey.
