First-Generation Survey for Augsburg Faculty and Staff

submitted by crombie@augsburg.edu

In recognition of First-Generation College Celebration Day (Nov. 8), the departments of TRIO Student Support Services, TRIO McNair Scholars, and Multicultural Life will be hosting events that highlight the first-generation college experience during the week of November 4. These events will be geared to students, but all of the Augsburg community is welcome to attend. More information will be provided in the upcoming weeks.

In addition to this programming, we’re asking faculty and staff to complete this brief First-Generation Augsburg Community Survey. The information collected will be used to create ongoing resources and support for first-generation students here at Augsburg. Please provide as much information as you’re comfortable sharing. NOTE: This is the same survey we released last year, so if you already submitted a response, no need to do so again (unless you’d like to update your responses)!

If you have any questions or comments about this survey or about the Augsburg First-Generation project, please contact Lara Crombie, TRIO McNair Scholars Program (crombie@augsburg.edu).

September 17 Is Constitution Day

submitted by burgessa@augsburg.edu

Constitution Day is an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. It is celebrated on September 17, the day the U.S. Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution in 1787 in Philadelphia.

One of the key responsibilities of citizenship is voting. This year, Election Day is Tuesday, November 5 and Augsburg has made Election Day a holiday during which classes are canceled so that all eligible voters have time to vote. The office of the Minnesota Secretary of State has sample ballots and information about voting. Please visit the Sabo Center website for helpful voter information resources.

Reminder: How to Schedule Events

submitted by obeys@augsburg.edu

University Events has been working hard to launch a new request form for all events and meeting reservations. So that all requests can be saved in the same place, it is essential that faculty and staff use this form to submit all requests regardless of whether your event is basic or more complicated. Please note that if your event requires any special set up, catering, AV requests, etc. we require at least 15 business days (but more time is strongly recommended to ensure your event is a success). The new form, as well as all resources for planning your event, can be found at https://sites.augsburg.edu/events/

Student groups and organizations should submit event requests through Auggie Life.

If you have trouble submitting the form, please screenshot the issue and email it to events@augsburg.edu so that we can look into fixing the issue.

Changes to Library Website (ILL)

submitted by vanclev1@augsburg.edu

The library is putting the finishing touches on “James” and “Jean,” our self-service model! We have updated our search (the catalog) to make it easier for students to understand interlibrary loan (ILL) services:

– For electronic articles available at other institutions, the ILL button will now read “Email it to me for free.” Here’s an example: https://augsburg.on.worldcat.org/oclc/425479288

– For books, and other physical items, the ILL button will now read “Request Free Delivery to Jean (1st Floor Pick-Up Lockers).” Here’s an example: https://augsburg.on.worldcat.org/oclc/20040515

As part of this change, we will decommission the outdoor bookdrop on Monday morning. Please return materials inside the building – and check the hours beforehand! (library.augsburg.edu/hours)

Please contact Stewart Van Cleve (vanclev1@augsburg) with any questions.
