Moodle Workshops for Faculty – Today, 9:30, SVE 204

submitted by kilgorem@augsburg.edu

All faculty members are invited to two Moodle workshops this Thursday, August 31, in SVE 204. The sessions, led by members of the E-Learning Team, will help you prepare your courses for the upcoming semester and beyond.

9:30-10:45, SVE 204, Getting the Most Out of the Moodle Assignment

The Moodle Assignment activity can streamline the process of collecting and evaluating student work regardless of whether it is submitted online, completed or handed in during class or presented orally. This workshop is designed to introduce some of the newer features of the Assignment as well as highlight aspects (like advanced grading features) you may be unfamiliar with.

11:00-12:15, SVE 204, Moodle Gradebook Basics

Whether you have never used the Moodle gradebook and want to learn the basics OR have been using the gradebook but would like us to do a “pre-semester check-up” this is the workshop for you. The E-Learning team will be on hand to offer some basic gradebook tips as well as individual help with making sure your gradebook correlates to your syllabus.

Add these events and other faculty development opportunities on the CTL website.

Choral Ensemble Auditions- New and Transfer Students

submitted by ekstromb@augsburg.edu

Music has always played an important role in campus life at Augsburg. In addition to the Augsburg Choir, our two other ensembles – the Riverside Singers and Cedar Singers offer students the opportunity to explore music written for treble and tenor/bass voices respectively. The Masterworks Chorale is a community/alumni/undergraduate ensemble that focuses on large choral and orchestral works.

We’d like to invite you to be a part of our musical life together at Augsburg. Auditions for all choral ensembles will take place the first week of classes. Auditions for new and transfer students will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 5 and 6 between 3:00 and 5:45 in the Choir Room and M4 (first floor of the Music Building). Call back auditions for the Augsburg Choir will take place on Friday, September 8 with first rehearsals beginning Monday, September 11. The call-back list for Augsburg Choir will be posted on Thursday, September 7.

Sign up sheets for audition times will be posted Friday, September 1 on the bulletin board between the Choir and Band Rooms.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Augsburg University Kick Off – Tuesday, September 5

submitted by collen@augsburg.edu

As we draw closer to the official launch date for Augsburg University, we hope that campus is getting excited for an exciting day on September 5. In addition to welcoming our incoming first-year students at Opening Convocation, we’re also planning a series of activities to take place immediately following the Convocation. We hope you will join us for the fun. Here is some information you’ll find helpful in planning your participation:

9:30 a.m.: Opening Convocation

Please note the time change for this event to begin one hour earlier than in prior years. Due to space constraints in the chapel, there is seating available only for our first-year students, their AugSem leaders and the faculty who will be processing. To accommodate others that wish to be involved, we will be hosting a livestream viewing of the entire event in Sateren Auditorium for all staff, community members, and current students.

10:30 a.m.: Kick-Off Celebration and Lunch in the Quadrangle

Everyone is invited! For those not planning to attend the Opening Convocation, please plan to join in the festivities and line up outside of Foss and on the sidewalk along 22nd Avenue by 10:20am to welcome our incoming class and the livestream audience as they recess from the event and to kick off the name change activities with some special performances and a fun “parade” to the quad!

Food stations, musical performances, games & other activities will be set up throughout the quad. Community members will be able to have Augsburg University logo t-shirts screen printed onsite, participate in a photo-booth, volunteer to assemble hygiene kits for the Health Commons and participate in some fun games with colleagues and friends.

11:30 a.m.: Formal Program, Quad

1:00 p.m.: Conclusion

First year students and others participating in the day’s community service projects will begin departing around 12:30pm. Remaining community members are welcome to enjoy the event and activities until 1:00 p.m.
