Summer Campus Projects

Progress continues on the following campus projects:
• I-94 sound wall upgrade work has begun on the West side of campus, work on walls began on 20th Ave and will continue to Lot L. This project is expected to be completed mid-July. Parking will be affected in areas along the project.
• Kennedy Center Athletic offices on 2nd floor are being remodeled to add several new offices. Work is expected to be completed by May 31.
• Ice Arena remodel project: Both ice surfaces are being replaced. This project is underway and will be continuing until October 15. The North portion of Lot L is being utilized to stage dirt and equipment.
• Building signage upgrade projects are being done outside of Kennedy, Music Building, Christensen Center, Oren Gateway and the Foss Center. There may be some temporary sidewalk access problems around the projects as they progress.

#AuggieCyclists bike ride May 24

Hey cyclists, let’s ride again!

If you don’t have a bike, ask the library how to check one out from the bike loan program.

Thursday, May 24 starting at 4:30 PM.

Meet at the corner of 22nd Avenue South and South 7 1/2 street (corner of Murphy Square Park).

This is an open ride for anyone of any ability level.

There is not a route selected yet for this ride, I am open to suggestions.

Participants needed for a psychology experiment on eye movements during reading.

Participants will view a series of paragraphs on a computer screen and locate grammatical errors in the passage using a computer mouse. A camera will track and record eye activity during the proofreading task.

Compensation: $5

Time commitment: 15 – 20 minutes

Requirements: Participants must be aged 18+, and have normal (or corrected-to-normal) vision

Participants Aged 60+ Needed for Paid Psychology Experiment

We are seeking eligible participants who are 60 years of age or older to participate in a facial perception study on campus this summer. Participants will have their eye movements monitored by a specialized camera while making judgments about images of human faces. The study is expected to take 30 minutes, and eligible participants will receive $10 USD as compensation. Somali Research Participants Needed: Share Your Story, Earn Movie Passes

Calling all Somali American immigrants! Interested in participating in a new and exciting research opportunity? Read below to learn more about how you can participate. I am conducting research on the immigration and assimilation experiences of Somali immigrants and their descendants and I’m inviting you to participate because you identify as a Somali immigrant or are descended from those born in Somalia.

Assimilation: The process of adapting or adjusting to the culture of a group or nation.

Goal: To tell our stories! There is limited research on our immigration experiences, we deserve to be heard! Let’s show the world our resilience and showcase our amazing achievements.

Benefits: Summer movie gift passes!
And a chance to tell your story, research will be presented at the University of California Los Angeles McNair Conference summer 2018!

How you can participate: Please contact me via email to set up interview dates and times. Please leave your name and number or other form of contact information. Participants must be available to partake in a 1-hour survey interview via in person or online platforms such as Skype or Face Time.

Garden Lunch Tuesday, May 22

The Campus Kitchen team is pleased to open up our garden for the summer this Saturday! As a way to celebrate, and bring more people into our garden, we are planning a lunch outing for all Augsburg University folks sticking around this summer.

We would like to invite you to have lunch with us on Tuesday May 22 at 11:30 in the community garden. This will be a BYOL (bring your own lunch) event. We would love to have you attend!

Norway and USA’s Constitutions: A Historic Perspective

Augsburg University’s, Norway Hub, in partnership with the Royal Norwegian Honorary Consulate General, will host the following seminar, Historic Perspectives on Norway and USA’s Constitutions, on Tuesday, May 29, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. in Oren Gateway Center 100.
We invite you all to register for this free event that will provide a historic perspective on the two constitutions including shared influences and legacies. Speakers are Bård Thorheim, political advisor to the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as Bård Frydenlund, historian and director at Eidsvoll 1814.

Register for the 2018 Vocation Conference

Augsburg Faculty and Staff:
You are invited to attend the twenty-fourth annual Vocation of a Lutheran College Conference at Augsburg University from Monday, July 16 to Wednesday, July 18.
Each year, five faculty members from each of the ELCA Colleges come together to explore the distinct roles that they play in higher education. One of the benefits being the host site is that we have the option of inviting more than five people to attend. This year’s theme is “Civil Discourse in a Fragmented and Multi-Religious Society.”
The conference will begin with an opening session at 5 pm followed by a dinner at 7:00 pm on July 16 and conclude by 1:00 pm on July 18.
