Looking For Faculty & Staff Dinner Hosts for International Student Orientation

submitted by bonfigli@augsburg.edu

International Student Orientation: International Student and Scholar Services is looking for Faculty & Staff who are willing to host new international & exchange students for a meal in their home. Approximately 25 new students will be arriving to Minneapolis in late August for orientation. Towards the end of their week, we would love to have students have the opportunity to connect more with a faculty or staff on campus, make connections, and have the chance to be in someone’s home.

Here are the details:
You will meet your students at 5:30 p.m. in the Oyate Commons on Thursday, August 30. We are asking for you to host 3-4 students and drive them to your home for a meal. We ask that you bring them back by around 8:30 p.m. If you are interested, please email Angela Bonfiglio, International Student Advisor at bonfigli@augsburg.edu. We are looking for around 8 hosts.

Survey for 2018-2019 Senior Show

submitted by johnso31@augsburg.edu

In short, my senior show is a requirement for my graphic design degree. My show will take form in a series of twenty short books that will each center around one of you that will be exhibited in the student gallery in Christensen Center that is now known as Gallery 720. The goal of my show is to provide a space where Augsburg community members can connect with one another without a breach of privacy. Each story will be anonymous.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could take 30 minutes out of your busy day to fill out this survey (https://goo.gl/forms/AzYGCozUsfeu8Xp23). As a sign of my gratitude, I will be selecting three of the responses that I find the most compelling, raw, and in depth and giving those respondents a $25 Amazon.com gift card. Again, I will not be putting names on the books so you can be completely honest. The winners will be emailed September 5th, so have your responses in by September 1st.

Food resources for students, staff & faculty

submitted by nguyenj@augsburg.edu

Hello everyone!
Campus Cupboard is open for the summer on Thursdays from 9am-4pm (hours subject to change). We will be open this Thursday 5/24! Please come in and check out what we have stocked. Students should have their student ID when coming to the Cupboard. Limit 5 items per student.
In addition to Campus Cupboard, there are several different food resources relatively close to Augsburg students/staff/faculty can utilize if needed. The link is down below.
We understand that summer payroll hasn’t kicked in yet for some students, so accessibility to food may be an issue.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or Campus Kitchen with questions, comments, or concerns. Thank you and take care.

The Minnesota Education Equity Partnership and the East African Student to Teacher (EAST) Program in the Education Department at Augsburg University partnered to research, write, and publish a report on Somali student achievement in Minnesota. As you may know, Somali students and families are a major constituency in some Minnesota schools and districts, and Somali is the third most spoken language in the state. We invite you, colleagues, families, and friends to our launch event where we will present an overview of the report and will have copies for you to take and share with your communities.
