Augsburg’s New Creative Writing Club

submitted by green@augsburg.edu

Malachi Owens has started a new student organization, Augsburg’s Creative Writing Club. The club promotes written work such as script writing, novels, and other written forms of art. If there are writing majors and other students interested in joining this club and participating in the events connected to it, please contact Malachi directly at owensmm@augsburg.edu.

Question #1: Will this club have any events in the years?

Yes. One major event will be the National Novel Writing Month celebration. NaNoWriMo is a celebration of writing in which individuals challenge themselves to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days. For this event, however, the plan is to have various activities (Kahoot nights, writing sessions, etc.) to celebrate and motivate participants. This event and related activities will happen in November 2020. Many other events may be made throughout this year.

Questions #2: What are the regular functions of this club?

This is a chance to trade writing skills and works-in-progress like scripts, poems, manuscripts, and other appropriate materials at regular meetings. For the remainder of this semester, the ideal time for meetings would be on Thursdays at 7 pm. As of now, the room and location are pending. More information will be forthcoming.

Questions #3: Will I be able to bring my writing assignments?

Assignments from developmental/effective writing classes will not be accepted since our focus is on creative work. (This is subject to change.)
