We are pleased to announce that two Augsburg students, Citlaly Escobar ’21 and Zakariya Abdullahi ’21, have been selected for the competitive Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Junior Summer Institute for 2020. Both will attend the institute held this summer at the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs, where they will participate in challenging policy coursework, leadership development training and graduate school preparation.
Citlaly Escobar ’21 is a Political Science and Sociology double major, an Honors Program Presidential Scholar and a McNair Scholar. She has done extensive research on the historical involvement of Mexican-American Women in the Twin Cities Chicano Movement. She is currently interning at the Minnesota Historical Society and is a Young People For Fellow.
Zakariya Abdullahi ’21 is a Political Science and International Relations double major, a Phillips Scholar, a Sabo Scholar and a Page Scholar, as well as a student of TRIO/SSS Summer Bridge. He is currently an intern with USAID doing political research analysis on Africa and the African Union. He has interned with Senator Tina Smith and Citigroup Global Government Affairs and worked for the Council on American Islamic Relations and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s campaign.
