What is ArcGIS? GIS stands for Geographic Information System. The Online version of ArcGIS allows one to use, create, and share maps, layers, analytics, and data. Arc mapping software is created by ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute).

Basically, ArcGIS Online allows you to collaboratively (or independently) create and publish interactive maps and graphics.
